Location: Bury St Edmunds England | I currently own a CC54 idea which I only bought because it came up at a great price. Since then I have really got into Ovations. As a result I have now bought a year 2000 W597 cvt 4G but waiting for it to arrive from the US to the UK. I was after a well-priced Adamas with a cutaway and this was all I could find rather than an actual out-and-choice (doesn't seem to be many second-hand Adamas' out there). What I would like to know is what can I expect from this guitar sound-wise, any good or bad points? This will be my first Adams in fact I have never played one but there is such good feedback about Adamas guitars that I decided to go for it.
Many thanks

It's hard to go wrong with an Adamas. I'm not a huge fan of smooth tops or mid-bowls, but to each his own, it's an AWESOME guitar.
Welcome. |

Location: Bury St Edmunds England | Thanks-I got this W597 for $860 but I have to pay tax when I get it into the UK. Even so it still seems a good price.
As the letters CVT would (I believe) suggest a textured top how come this guitar is a smooth top?
Thanks

Location: Jet City | It's a cross-weave pattern that's had a smooth gloss finish applied to the top. Kinda like a carbon fiber shaft on a golf club, you don't feel the raw texture of the material. I've never had or played one, but I'm pretty sure it's smooth. Now on something like a 2080NWT, that's a natural woven top. You feel the actual carbon fiber mat texture when you run your hands across it. It's a rough surface. As for the mid-bowl, my first Ovation was a mid-bowl and I liked it, but I play a lot of lead when playing with friends which means I'm an attention hog and needed a bigger bowl to be as loud as possible.
Smooth or not, you got a great guitar at a good price indeed!
I've upgraded your status so feel free to go post questions in the other sections. There are only a very few members that can respond to posts in this 'newbie' section. |

Location: Bury St Edmunds England | Damon-thanks for the reply and the upgrade. One final question, how much deeper is a deep bowl over a mid bowl?
Thanks

Location: Jet City | not sure. and it probably makes a difference if the Adamas has a suspension ring too. you could try asking in the more populated 'general' section |
