I'm wanting to buy an Ovation, haven't even picked up a guitar for thirty years, anyway I see that a majority are made in China now, maybe not the end of the world but I'd like to get something made here in the US without mortgaging the house. Are the Ultra models produced here? Specifically the 2071 and 2178? Thanking you in advance.

The Ultra 2071 and 2178 are mostly made in Korea.
Back then the deal was that the "components" were Made in Korea...
Then the "final assembly" was done at the New Hartford, CT Factory.
The Ultra 2071 & 2178 both have dove-tail neck assembly just like the newer Korean Ovations.

Now, they no longer make "Ultras" because the current crop of Ovations are made at that same factory in Korea minus that trip to Connecticut.
"Ovations" are made in Korea. "Celebrity" is made in China.
Unless they are USA Ovations.

I owned two 2071's and one 2178.
I had to return one 2071 to GC because of the neck-set/string-height.
I received a second 2071 that was just fine. (sold it)

I also had a new (in 2008) 2178 that had a string height issue.
I traded it to a fellow OFC'r who routed the bridge to lower the strings.

So... two outta three of the new Ultras that I have owned were not so great.
But they were nicely made guitars... just crappy neck-set.
And because of the design, you cannot reset the neck yourself. (at least, I can't)
So either play them first, or be sure that you have a good return policy.

But if you are in the market for a Used guitar there are many USA-made Ovations available at reasonable/bargain prices in the "For Sale" section and on evilBay.
To be sure, look for the Made in New Hartford label.

Hope that helps.

Thank you much, very good info indeed. Been checking out ebay and not sure what to do about the USA models. The newer ones with on board tuners are still outa my league. I do see that some newer models with tuners and contour bodies are made in China, like the CC49s. Pretty guitar but I can't do China made guitar. Thanks again for your info and input.

I have a China-made CC29S-4C...
That is a contour bowl with a Cedar top, OP4BT preamp with Tuna.
I got it for Cheap. ($219 with a gig-bag)
But I must use Martin Silk-n-Steel strings on it so that the action is low.
It is nice guitar, but a cheapy Celebrity... you get what you pay for.

When searching on d'Bay just type Ovation USA check "used" and go for it.
The go over and pick the highest price that you can afford to thin the herd.
I have some very nice USA Ovations that I paid less than $300 for... Just have patience.

Like Arthur says, you can buy a GREAT used USA model for considerably less than a new Asian Ovation.

Another consideration, if you buy a new guitar, as soon as you walk out the door, it's resale value drops about 25 - 33%.  Buy a used guitar and the devaluation is already absorbed.

Your correct and I feel the same way, I'd never buy new. I've been doing like suggested and have a few saved . Will see how things go. Thanx for all all the good input, I appreciate it.

Thank you Damon. I have it narrowed down to a sweet Standard Elite 6778 LX. So far the only ebay member to answer my questions. Also watching a couple 2778 LX's but the sellers haven't or won't answer questions. I don't get it, maybe their hiding something.
