Hello. Just curious if anybody has/is using these Adamas Guitar Strings? Just curious how they sound, and if they add anything extra to sound of the Ovations/Adamas guitars unique construction?

http://www.stringsbymail.com/store/acoustic-guitar-strings-7/adamas...

I see that they claim to be made by Kaman Music Corp in Bloomfield, CT - but are they really just Fender strings now?

Thanks!

I think they are the same as D'Addarios, but without the multicolored ball ends.

I use them a lot. My favourites are the silk and steel. My 08C Adamas sounds sweetest with those. They last a lot longer than phosphor bronze.

They seem to sound better on my guitar that regular D'Adds. Maybe it is just my imagination.

Hi, Everyone,
Mike S. from Ottawa, CANADA here. I use the Adamas 1818's whenever I can't find D'Addario J-16's. My Ovation dealer in Ottawa still has one or two sets on the rack. They are not coated, and were OEM on all the original Adamas guitars, starting in 1976. They were later made OEM on all Ovation guitars, until the coated D'Addario lines replaced them, when the LX series came out a few years back. They do NOt last as long as the coated strings, true, are great strings for the money, and I will continue to use them as long as they keep making them. D'Addario and Martin have virtually split the string manufacture franchises in North America between them now, and I have found out that music stores here in Ottawa now only carry one brand, or the other, but NOT both. Every brand of string is made by only these 2 companies, regardless of the packages name. I used to work in a music store, and only your music dealer really knows which brands he is allowed to carry, so when you actually ASK for the one you want, he might not be allowed to order it, despite what is on the floor. I was told the D'Addario franchise is slowly being phased out in the store where I was shopping, about 6 months ago, so perhaps this just applies to Eastern Canada now. That being said, I would still get the Adamas Strings until they are GONE. They are not going to be around for too much longer, IMOHO.

Here in the prairies there is little selection of anything in stores. However strings and beyond has great selection of brands at pretty reasonable prices and with free shipping to Canada pretty easy to try different types of brands, including Adamas:

I'll use Adamas 1818s if I can't find DR Sunbeams.

I used Adamas 1818s for a little while but when I wanted a slightly lighter set (11-50) I switched to a custom set I put together myself.
