Location: Columbus OH and Cape Coral FL | Is the pickup that comes on the American series and some Pinnacles noticably better sounding than the the thin pickup seen on the Celebrity models? The one I am talking about is the wider saddle where it appears every string is compensated and there is a black ring around the saddle.
Thank you in advanced for your sage advice/opinions!

The "Thinline" is a nice pickup.
So is the "Original Patented Pickup" (the wide one).
The nice thing about the Thinline is that it is easily replaceable with aftermarket Undersaddle Piezo pickups.

Location: Utah | I've been messing with a variety of aftermarket "thin" undersaddle piezos in an Adamas. None of them sound as good as the OPP, which is the fat compensated Ovation pickup. I have not played a real Ovation Thinline pickup to compare with the OPP. Some here have reported the thinline isn't as good sounding. Hopefully someone else with first hand experience will speak up. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I have 4 oval preamped guitars without the thinline pickups, so the thinlines don't all come with ovals and vice versa. |

Location: Upper Left USA | I believe the OPPs have a little more area/output to them and if coupled with a decent Preamp will deliver a better sound.
The quality control of piezos available today is high so even the Artec and similar units for less can behave well.
The best I have heard is from OPPs with an OP50, OP Pro nestled into a well cut saddle. |

OMA.... question
Can one assume that any ovation with an oval preamp has a thinline pick up.?
Trick Question?
Often the Thinline will be coupled with a silver oval preamp. OP20, OP30.
I have also had the Thinline coupled with rectangular OP24 and OP-24+.
But the Wide saddle OPP (original patented pickup) is the original (I'm guessing).
You can see the OPP on early 1612's, 1617's...
Then sometimes see it change to the Thinline in some of them in later years.
Maybe because a 1112 could be changed into a 1612 simply.
The early years of the 1778T came with OP-30 and a Thinline pickup (20002).
Then the Elite T's moved to the OPP and the OP-Pro pickup.
Since the Thinline was made AFTER the OPP, someone must have thought it was an improvement.
But after some years, apparently that idea was reconsidered.
I have an Adamas W579T that has a Tru-Balance pickup, which is kinda like a fancy Thinline with "steps" for each string.
Of course, none of this really answers the original question.
