Hi All, having posted an introduction in the Welcome area, I have been advised to post this here.

So for my first bit advice if I may, I have browsed here and don't seem to be able to find the answer, but apologise if the question has been asked before. I have come up against a problem, the low battery light keeps coming on for the preamp and tuner and the preamp has become intermittent after only six days of occasional use. I have tried to replace the battery but I have been unable to open the battery cover/compartment; it appears to be jammed solid and will not move at all, and now the little plastic tab has snapped off. The unit is an OP-4bt on an applause balladeer.

Can you give me any help or advice?

Regards & keep up the good work
Dave T

If you can figure out how to post pictures, it would help. I am not familiar with an "applause balladeer". I thought it had to be one or the other. Anyway, if it's an oval shaped preamp, try pushing in the side opposite the button and pry the other side out with something fairly thin while holding in the button. If it's a square battery compartment separate from the preamp they can jam because the battery is a bit too big or isn't plugged all the way into the connector. I'm not sure what to do, but you may be able to access it from the inside through the soundhole.

First: battery usage: Did you leave the cable plugged-in?

As to getting the battery out...
There is a technical term for what has happened... yer screwed.
There should be springs in the bottom of the battery compartment.
So it should pop-out when you push the tab in.
Therefore it is either corroded in there, or the battery is swollen, or something...

On the battery compartment there should be a name plate saying "Ovation" or "Applause"...
Under that nameplate there are two screws that hold the battery compartment into the bowl.
Those two screws go into a metal plate, seen here as a white rectangle...

When you loosen the screws, this metal plate may stay attached to the inside of the bowl, or it could fall into the inside of the bowl.
On the other side of the battery container there are two plastic tabs...
Loosen the strings and reach inside the bowl through the sound-hole... and see if you can manipulate the battery box. Push those tabs in and you can remove the battery holder.
The battery holder should slide outward towards you when get it undone.
The actual preamp is much larger than what you see on the side of the guitar.... it is a large rectangular box.
So it might be difficult to reach in between the battery box and the preamp.
Once you have the battery compartment out of the bowl you will be able to push in the latch from the side with a screwdriver or something similar.
You may have to replace the battery box.
But once you have it out of the guitar you can diagnose the problem, hopefully.

Thanks for the replies. Thanks for putting the pictures up OMA, that all makes sense and seems obvious now. Not sure about the reason for low battery already, I have only had the guitar for a week and only played it twice through an amp, and it wasn't left plugged in. Probably just one of those things and hopefully just the battery. I bought it from Thomann in Germany and waiting for a reply from them, but it seems a pretty simple fix if that proves problematic. I'll let you know how I get on.

There is a connector on the jack which connects the battery when you plug in the guitar. It is possible the tab needs to be sprung back out a bit. It may be making contact all the time even when not plugged in.
