Hello all I seek information. After corresponding with the Ovation factory, via email, a fellow , named John, is of the opinion that my Balladeer is a 1969 model. While that would be nice, I find it difficult to believe, because the guitar is basically in mint condition. The serial number is 5613 typed on a rectangular paper label and is also stamped, inside on the neck butt. Anyway it is nice to be here amongst like minded folks and any info I can get would be appreciated.

There's your image.

John may be off by a year. I believe that's from 1968. I have one too, but it's serial is considerably lower. Mine is in like new condition too....

What else do you want to know about it?

Actually, looking at your second picture, that's not the rosette of a '68. I'd say John was right. '69 or '70. The serial # should have another digit though, so thats a bit odd

Well thank you first of all. It is nice to have a second opinion. I used to have an Applause that I was very fond of but this is my first Ovation and now that I am aware of its age I am a little reluctant to play it.The guitar came from a pawnshop in Maryland with some fairly stiff bronze strings on it. I've been used to playing Martin Silk & Steels and I wonder if they would be copacetic for this guitar ? I had them on my old Applause and they were fine but I intend to be a little more cautious with this one. I guess I'll stick around for a bit and as more questions come to mind, there seem to be folks here that know the answers. Thanks again.

I still say 69 or 70, especially with the tuners... kluson right?

OR

Coulda redone the top at some point. I assume the bowl has a textured finish? Or is it glossy and smooth?

Yes it has the textured bowl and I am unsure about the tuners.

you're getting closer, but you're not inputting the right info. You need to put the address for the image itself, not a page the image is displayed on.

Had you clicked on your image to where it opens up to the full size, then right clicked and selected 'copy image address' and used that, your image woulda shown up like this...

Silk and steels are fine for it. I use standard light gauge D'Addarios on my '68. No issues at all, it's a player.
