You got yourself a great guitar, in incredible shape.
It looks like it literally was collected and not played.
(I understand the concept of "Collectors" but I'd personally rather play 'em than just look at 'em.)
Even the book looks virtually untouched.
It looks like the hardcover edition of the book.
Those books are difficult to find and priced accordingly if you do find one. (The autograph doesn't really diminish the value much, since it's impossible to read. Just don't tell anyone who it is.*)

So, yes, you got a very good deal.

(Nice Fleetwood Mac poster, btw.)

*If you haven't already figured it out, everyone is joking about the autograph. Let's just say the signer has been known to read this forum.

Very nice, man, lucky you were. There was one on german eBay two years ago, just 30miles from my home, and I did not see the offer before it was sold- at a similar price als yours. I was really p....

Luckily I was able to get my hands on a Nakao N768 in the meantime, so I go with 2wheeldrummer, this one is the best Elite cutaway, simply because I own one....

Enjoy your new toy!!!

Looking like the proverbial cherry on the sundae.. so very pretty and no doubt sounds and plays as pretty. Now if you could please send it out on pass-around tour for all of us to meet and play it! Congratulations!

I am a bit confused on the whole signature thing. I think I sorta get it. So who's signature is it?

C. William Kaman II. Known as Bill, or "Beal" on this site. Read the book and you'll figure it out right away. As I recall, he wrote the forward (and probably helped write most of the rest of the book).

Say it with a deep back in the woods Tennessee hillbilly accent. Then mispronounce the last name like everyone does. you'll get it

Remember "Family Affair"? The TV show with Buffy and Jodie, Mrs Beasley and "Uncle Beeeall"??? Hillbilly works too! LOL!!!!

"Cayman" works perfectly, that is how I thought it was pronounced too, until Tony told me it is like "Command" without the "d". Is Kaman Scottish??

Damon67 - 2016-04-25 10:24 AM $1k is a steal for one of the very best models ever to come out of New Hartford. Quite possibly the best cutaway Elite ever.

It's a really good guitar no doubt, but I never cared for the way they finished the neck and headstock. Personal preference. As to the best cutaway Elite --- 87 Collectors. Personal preference.........

Opinions... assholes... you know the saying.

I like the oil rubbed finish better.

Steve-o, nice get. My book has that same damned scribbling. Why would someone would deface a historical accounting of Ovation like that? Kid's these days, I'm tellin' ya.

According to Mr Ovation, the Book Elite I have once belonged to Beal. Whether that's true or not, it's one of the very best guitars under my roof. Plays fantastic, and looks... well you already know that. There's no way I'd sell it for $1k

Yea, I do feel lucky with the deal I got. I have seen one other come up for sale about 5 years ago that I could not pull the trigger on. This baby is in what I would call show/collectors condition. With that said, I plan on playing the heck out of her!
