Location: South of most, North of few | The UTE got in town today, and I called Fedex to have them hold it for pickup rather than having it ride around all day on a delivery truck. Got the box, and man, this guy packed it in the original Ovation box with bubble rap stuffed in the voids, then put that box in another box with a 1.5" layer of styrofoam all around it! You could have run this over with a truck without damaging the guitar. Anyhow, I am pleased to report that other than some dirt and dust, this thing is in pristine condition, and he shipped it with a brand new 9158 case that he just bought to ship it in. I'm going to lower the action and clean and restring it when I get home tonight. WOO HOOOOO!! :D |

Location: Boise, Idaho | I think I told you I had 3 shims in my Ute and took out 2. I probably could have taken out all 3. With Adamas 1818s, I noticed no significant loss of volume. Replacing dead strings probably made up for the 2 shims. It plays very easily with one shim, so I'll probably leave it there. There is no shortage of volume with the Ute, so with the action lowered it probably is one of the best sounding and easiest playing guitars out there. |

Location: South of most, North of few | Thanks Mark, I assume this has three also as the action is high. When I get to mess with it tonight, I will probably take two out also. Still has the original strings on it, so I'm sure it will open up when I replace them. |

| The sound of a ute gets flat with no shims and you'll almost certainly get a buzz on the top strings. I did. So I levelled a couple of frets, solved the buzz and was left with an incredibly fast setup but no tone. One shim back in and it's perfect.

Sounds great, plays great.

Location: South of most, North of few | Just got done with the setup and cleaning. Left one shim in, went with light (10's) Elixir nano's. Pulled all the tuners and polished the neck to a gloss shine. Man, this thing is new. I doubt this guy even played it more than a couple hours at best. Still had the original strings on it. Now, I wonder what ever possessed me to sell the first one. I'm going to have to force myself to play the others now! |

does your UTE have a glossed headstock? Or did you polish it to that glossy shine? If so, please tell me what you took for it.
By the way, I play my UTE with two shims, lights - but tuned down to D. This setup let it rumble like a freight train :)
