Location: Colorado | Mark in Boise, My comment was not directed at you. It is in response to this self serving thread in which Dr. Tom is seeking praise for being so honest. His story is simply not believable. And why did he take it out of the box? And why did he need to repack the guitar. And why does he need to ask for money from members when he obviously has plenty to spend on guitars and multi hundred dollar guitar straps which he photographs at his expensively landscaped large property. Why not just quietly just send a check, Give up one guitar, instead of asking for money from people who have much less, while boasting about all the new guitars he's getting. |

Their is a guy living in Wisconsin(his name is Gary Bowen) who is selling off all of his guitars, mainly solid body Ovations to try and continue to make ends meet.He has had very serious medical problems that have left him with many tens of thousands of dollars of debt even after being forgiven an over $100,000 bill from his hospital. He is also now permanently disabled.
I have purchased a Deacon from him for $800 to help him out. This is not enough as he needs to keep selling all of his guitars.
I was wondering if I could ask every one so inclined to send this guy $1 or $2 if you were so inclined.This should hurt each of us too much and could really add up if many contributed. I do not know this person, but do know that he is in need and in desparate straits and he is a fellow Ovation lover.
If you would like to send the money directly to him I can get his address but he may be losing his home soon. If you like you could send it to me via paypal and I would send him a lump sum and I would absorb the paypal fees. I know this is a bit strange, but I feel compelled to help a fellow Ovation guitar lover out in his time of need. Let me know what you think or if you have any better ideas.

Location: CA | My wife once ordered a discount water ski (what people used to use for water recreation before wake boards). It was a discontinued model that was cheap to begin with. What arrived a week later on the doorstep was a top-of-the-line jobber with little fins on the fins, fer chrissakes, plus total high-end foot mount things and the most killer 'anaconda' paint job I've ever seen. She didn't think twice before packaging it up to send back (despite my tearful pleas on bended knees to eBay it and pocket the difference). As Doc mentions, the company was also flabbergasted at such honesty. Of course, if it hadn't have been way too big for her, I might have turned the tide. LOL. |

The invitation is to be one of them......or not. I would personally hope that you'd choose the former. Unfortunatly, there are some people who still don't get it and no matter how much we try, never will.
