Location: New South Wales, Australia | Had to have my 16 year old dog put to sleep a couple of days ago. It was an awful day for our family.
I cried for the first time in 30 years and then played guitar for nine straight hours. Nothing soothes the soul like hitting those strings.
My repertoire is quite limited so I played several things more than once in that 9 hours.
My dog used to howl when I played Neil Young's Four Strong Winds. Dunno if it was because it agreed with her sensitive hearing or if it just sounded bad........maybe both. |

Location: Boise, Idaho | Been there, Oz. My Brittany, Festus, was almost that old when we had to put him down. He couldn't use his back legs and looked sad all the time, instead of the typically happy dog look. Said we'd never get another, but rescued our current Springer from the pound after our daughter bugged us for another dog. Now the Springer is getting old. |

As wise man once said that he Loved dogs, he just couldn't have another one...
"All the dogs that I've had died on me and left me alone...
Now, I'm old enough that if I got a dog, I'd die on it and leave it alone!"
I've had great dogs, that I will always compare other dogs to, so I can never have another dog.
But then again, I've said that before ;) |

Location: ms | My old dog Jack died a few years ago and i just have not been able to bond with another dog, but my father in law gave my kids two puppys a couple of weeks ago and we named one Jack. I hope this is the start of a healing process. |

Location: Bluffton, SC | A few years ago, after 14 years, I had to put to rest the best dog I've ever had the pleasure to be with and I was worried about how my (then) four year old would handle it. She was a champ - consoled her sniveling old man for hours because he was finding it hard to accept what he knew he had to do. Still tough to think about.
My sympathies, Oz. Remember the fun. |
