Hello all, this is Andrew, not Mitch. At the OFC convention I remember telling several members (unsure of who exactly) about guitarist Andy McKee, so I thought I'd share some of his music. The best way to describe his music is a Leo Kottke - Kaki King crossover. Very cool stuff. Below are links for some of the youtube threads posted by his record label. The video quality is sub par, but the audio is excellent. It's very hard not to appreciate this music, no matter what you're into. Check it out

That's wonderful. I really like how he's playing a tune. So many of the tappers just get this melodic groove going and that's the big thing. It gets boring pretty fast.

He said "Me"

"expliatives deleted I hate going after a better act"

+1

Hedges was novel, Kaki brought in a unique groove, the rest just bore me to tears. But that's just me, i can't stand rap either. So go figure.

Preston did one of the nicest little concerts I've ever been to. Until then, I'd never heard of him. I liked the variety of sounds he got out of his guitars. He only had 7 though, which my wife noted several times.

I just posted on Tim's thread and noticed it was my 667th post.

(cue 'Twilight Zone muzak')

That makes my above post, re: Herr Riviera, my 666th.

Scary.

Well, yeah, he's good at this style as well.

But one or two songs is all i can take. The style is really limited and after a couple of songs they all start to sound the same to my ear.

Don't get me wrong here, some of these folks are far better musicians than i can ever hope to be. And i really admire their skills and creativity. I'm not dismissing them as artists. Perhaps it was bad form to mention them along with rap, which as a music form, i do dismiss in large part.

But i can say the same thing about Felix Mendelssohn. A musical genious on the vanguard of a major shift in melodic statement -- but i don't care for much of his music either. It's just a personal thing i guess.
