Location: Richmond, VA | Hello to all on this forum:
I recently bought a 1979 Ovation Stereo Classical Guitar, Model 1613 at Guitar Center during their Memorial Day sale.
The guitar is in exceptional shape, with only two small dings on the cedar top. The electronics work fine, but the volume section of the the stacked knob is missing. Are parts available from Ovation?
The guitar came without a case, however, and I am not sure what size case to purchase. The depth of the guitar bowl is about 6.5+ inches. Is this considered a deep bowl?
A fellow on ebay is selling a case that is 5 inches deep. Is that a medium bowl or is that considered a shallow bowl.
How many ovation case sizes are there? is there a lot of variability in ovations case sizes or are there 3 standard size cases: shallow, medium, and deep? Is a deep bowl case for an ovation classical the same size as a deep bowl case for an ovation steel string guitar, or Adamas deep bowl?
I am a classical guitarist and I really like the sound of the guitar and the thinness of the neck. It is a beautifully crafted instrument, though not as loud as some of my other classical guitars.
My big issue with the guitar is the scale: its a long scale guitar - 664mm -- that hearkens back to the big scale Ramirez guitars of the 1960s and 70s.
Segovia set the standard in those days. He had hands the size of giant hams, hence the big scale concert classical standard used during the 1960s and 1970s.
Nowadays, the standard scale is 650mm with more and more guitars being built with smaller scale lengths. Standard width for a classical is 52mm by the top nut and 62mm by the 12th fret.
Does Ovation make any smaller scale classical guitars? I think that the country classic is a smaller scale guitar, but it is also narrow width fingerboard. Does anyone have information regarding this?
Sorry for all of the questions.
Thanks to all in advance.

Location: Boise, Idaho | It's a deep bowl and you'll need a deep bowl case. It's hard to tell from ebay ads when they supposedly measure how deep the case is.
My 1713 didn't come with a case either, but I have several that fit.
You know more about classical guitars than I do. Your 1613 probably has a bigger sound than most classical guitars. I prefer that as well as the variety it helps provide. |

Location: Pewaukee, WI | Go back to Guitar Center and find an Ovation case that fits it. Then you'll know from the case model # what case to look for. Musicgoround.com has some deep bowl brown cases for $39 to $49 but the shipping makes them comparable in price to a brand new case from GC. |

Location: Bluffton, SC | Welcome Rick. Shoot Al Pepiak, one of the founders of this site and an authorized Ovation dealer, an email. He'll know what you need. I just bought a new case from him for my deep bowl and it fits like a glove.
Then c'mon back and have some fun on the Board. |
