Location: Warren,Pa. | I enjoy my Pacemaker (I guess that name is REALLY outdated!) so much. I asked Kim about new issues of this guitar and his response was " You'll have to get in line behind me if they start making those again!" So...the factory won't make one...but they'll REPAIR one. I want the top replaced on mine(which means top and bowl replaced). With what you tonewood geeks know about different top woods, what do you think about a Cedar top on a 1115? I've liked the sound of EVERY Cedar topped guitar I've ever heard, but can't quite imagine the effect it would have in this case. Any opinions? John <>{ |

Location: Upper Left USA | I am not so sure about a Cedar topped 12 string. May be muddy.
Maple is too harsh. Stick with Spruce.
A 12 string, 12 fret Pacemaker LX (Spruce)would be so-o-o-o swe-e-e-e-et though! |

Location: Canton (Detroit), MI | Don't want to tease you too much, but I saw two good used 1115s at the Detroit Vintage Guitar Show today....they're running around $450 to $475 "on the tag" (but I'm sure they'll dicker).
1115s and 1118s don't seem that hard to find around here. My local GC had a good used 1118-1 for $429 a month ago...it only lasted a week.
I'm with Woody, I wouldn't do a cedar-top 12-string. Not sure if it would be muddy, but I think it would be undesirable, in any case.

I've seen several on ebay recently.
Kim said the 1115 was the best 12 string Ovation ever made.
I'm Keeping mine. I almost sold it about 5 years ago but the wife said keep it. Smart woman. :D |

Location: Pacific Northwest Inland Empire | And, I'm not sure cedar would stand up as well with the higher tension. I'd go with the spruce, with a reserve sunburst, just to be contrary. |
