I only meant to take my Wife out to dinner after a day of slaving for the backyard and garden. Turns out that they were celebrating Oktoberfest in Silverdale, WA. This meant that a special brew and Brat were featured on the menu as well as tents full of "Oompa" bands and oddly dressed Tuetonic wannabe's.

Then we take a walk across the parking lot where we find Freddy Pink and band with "Operation Southern Comfort" to get funds for the American Red Cross, specifically New Orleans area. There is a silent auction. On the table is a mandolin with HSC. My Wife says "You should get that". Well I'm not the sharpest hoe in the shed but I can smell permission when I find it!!!

I now have a Mid-Missouri Mandolin M3 with HSC. I just perused the search here and found a couple of Mando sites and will venture into the land of tiny fretboards! :D

Mwoody, I just bought my first mando as well. I liked the mid-mos very much. Ended up buying a Breedlove OF. I'm enjoying it so far.

An electric pencil sharpener (rewired to 220) works.

This is why I bought the breedlove, the board felt a little wider, although I'm not 100% sure if it is.

Maybe the same illusion that the '05 appears to have.

All I know is I have large hands and prefer the wide necks. Playing a mando is taking a lot of effort on my part to even get my fingers into the correct frets!

Thanks for the encouragement guys. I know four chords now and connect three of them with other notes.

What songs go with Eb, C#and F#9?

I've seen Ricky Skaggs play. He's exactly my age and right around my size...with fat fingers. Nobody plays like him! How tiny is his Gibson fingerboard? How much difference can there be??

Where's Bailey when you needs him?

I remember something about thinking horizontal and the more you cover the better. I'll try to get some lessons.

Congrats Woody! Mid-Missouri mandolins are superbly crafted instruments. I know you'll have no trouble learning to play it. If I can play one with my fat fingers....

I enjoy playing mandolin so much that I'm in the process of building my first mandolin (F5) from scratch!(I've just finished the "easy" part  )
