I have a 1981 Ovation Model 1639...I believe its a Baladeer Special but I am not sure of that. It is in its original tan/tweed colored case with a red velvety inside to it. Does anybody know the standard value of this guitar? any help would be appreciated....thanks Jim

c'mon, SOMEBODY in an Ovation "specialists" website should know a relative price of this guitar?

I'm looking to sell it and want to be fair. Please, any help is greatly appreciated.

Well, let's see... Some pictures would help to determine it's condition. Yes, it's a Balladeer Special. These days 'standard value' seems to be determined by who's shopping on ebay at the moment. My guess would be in the $200-$400 range, depending on condition (and like I said, who happens to be looking).
Hopefully someone else will respond to this and expose me for the charlatan that I am.

I have no idea what a model 1639 is. I went thru catalogs from 1980-1994 and didn't find it. It's not on the Ovation webpage archives either......

You got a picture of it?

Well, there you go. I still can't find it in my catalogs..... Obviously an early 80's Balladeer.

yep....thats the one fore sure. thanks a lot guys. I really appreciate the help. mine has some minor stress/time cracks in the finish...but they're more from aging, and I doubt would effect the value in much of a way at all. I need to replace the A-string tuning peg because its simply cracked off. Would I be better off replacing all 6? or just the one? Also, I have yet to plug it in to test its electronics...hoping thats all good to go. But again, thanks for the help and quick replies to my second post...

Cracks are common and do not usually affect the sound, but do reduce the value. The broken tuning peg is a major problem that will reduce the value a bunch. If you can just replace one to match, that's what I'd do if I was going to sell it. If you can't match it, replace the whole set, but try to find some that fit in the same holes. People notice when there are extra holes drilled in the back of the headstock.

I have extra holes in the back of my headstock. I just comb my hair down over them.

You should just use those big ass floppy ears to cover up any extra holes
