Hi All,

I have been very busy(five kids under 11 you know) and unfortunately not able to follow the threads here recently, but took time to acquire this guitar after reading many of the impressions of the 1615 on this site.

It showed up today in mint condition. I was worried I paid too much, since most of these go for less on ebay, but thought if it is in the condition specified it would be worth the price.

The case is in good shape except for the trim strip which I plan to reglue back on.

It sounds great with old rusty strings so I am looking forward to hearing it with new strings, but before I did that, I thought I would ask you all for tips on battery changes.
If anyone has any good tips about battery changes in this model I would certainly appreciate them.

Thanks

Mark, check that the neck is straight before going any farther....old 12-strings have a tendency to have neck twist. I have a 1981-vintage 1118 GC 12-string that does.

I have a 1617 that probably has the same battery container that you do.....and it sure is NOT handy!!!! I've never mastered changing the battery in it (but since the pickup doesn't work, it doesn't matter).

Oh....and be advised that changing strings on a slothead, especially a 12-string, is an "adventure"......

Congrats...your 1615 looks pretty similar to my 1118(a picture is in my gallery).

Hi Roger,

I am not seeing any neck twist. It has a screw in the base side that appears to hold the battery holder in place. Do you remove the screw or just pull the battery out when you have the string loose or off.

...."had it tested at music store and (with new battery) works perfectly...sounds like an orchestra !
Did they take out the "new battery" after they tested it? Very nice instrument. I have a feeling the tone will be vibrant with proper strings. I'm not sure why. The grain looks right and ready to sing. The guitar does not seem over priced. Enjoy it!

To remove the battery compartment, reach inside the bowl aand apply a slight pressure while turning the screw about a quarter turn, the battery compartment should release. It is attached with wires to the pickup so be careful not to pull it out too far. Remove battery and replace with the BEST BATTERY you can buy. A heavy duty alkaline. Replace compartment carefully a put on new strings and PLAY ON. :)

I have not had a chance to plug it in yet. I will do that today. The battery is probably ok. It just looked like changing the battery had something to do with changing strings and figured if I was changing strings I should replace the battery.

Hopefully you'll be changing the strings more often than the battery...
Wait. Pacemaker 12 string. Maybe not...
