Due to family medical issues, this has sat in the case unplayed almost since the day I got it. Well I finally got it out today, tuned it up and played it for a while.
First thing that struck me was the DEEP DEEP DEEP bass that nearly knocked me off my chair from the very first strum. MAN WHAT A SOUND! This thing is a tone monster of epic proportions.
After playing it for a while it had this vibration on several of the strings that really annoyed me. Sounded like the bridge was loose or something and it was driving me batty. Well fortunately, I remembered a thread from a week or so ago that addressed this very issue. I got the wrench out and tightened up all the tuners and BINGO the buzz was gone (thanks OFC for another timely and informative post!).
Anyway, the guitar is a real treat to play and sounds absolutely fabulous.... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED .
The only other problem I had initially was keeping it in tune. I think this was in part because Ovation tends to string the guitars up with many wraps around the post which tends to allow string slippage and tuning problems. After stretching the strings 3-4 times over about a 30-45 minute period, the guitar finally settled in and stayed in tune beautifully (like we expect our Ovations to behave).
I have become spoiled by the built-in tuners on the newer Ovations and this reissue only having the 2 knobs and no tuner did cause me a moment of panic as I actually had to think to tune it up.
Finish, fit, and gold sparkle were all applied flawlessly.....a real beauty AND A PERFECT MATCH FOR THE U681T in color and appearance.
VERY VERY HAPPY with the 1581 cutaway reissue and a keeper for sure. Those members looking for a temporary cure for GAS (since there is no permanent cure) should definately check it out. |

As this guitar comes with old 2 knobs, I wonder if this guitar comes with a new pre-amp ? If yes, which one ?

Location: SoCal | Ovation literally had to go back and redesign the original 2 knob stereo preamp for this guitar and the Adamas I reissue. I was told that it was tweeked a bit and is a better preamp than the original. I'm kicking around the idea of getting one for my 1537, which now has a 22 year old preamp in it. |

Paul, what a great idea to think about.
I just sent my 1547 back to the mothership for some repairs and on the estimate they sent back it said "new electronics"....never dawned on me that it might be the redesigned one used on the reissues. |

Location: SoCal | Given the opportunity, I'd do the upgrade in a heartbeat. You maintain the vintage look, but have newer electronics in the guitar. A win-win situation. |

| Who makes Ovation's electronics these days? Are they made as in-house components or by contract?..
