Thanks to some great comments and suggestions from the memebers I narrowed my search and last night a 2005 Collector's Series (natural finish) came home. Played it on my deck while my wife and I enjoyed the sunset in to the Pacific. This will be my travel companion and outdoor ax. It is a keeper and fun to play. Thats all anyone can say about a guitar. Again thanks for the tips. I now consider myself one of the family.

Welcome!!!!
That's one heck of a "travel" guitar. I bet the more you play it the more you will like it.

And...just to let you know we are open minded here....there is a Taylor 614CE at my local GC. I spend time with it whenever I go there. A very sweet guitar.

Welcome to the club!! :)

Enjoy you 2005 Collectors.

I just got a 1997 Collectors on ebay and after correcting a problem with the tuning knobs,( with a little help for members of this forum and Kim Keller at Ovation), this probably with be one of my travel guitars, ( yes I need more than one), the parlor size and 12 fret neck makes one sweet sounding guitar.

Slipkid, The new bowl was a compromise. I wanted a mid (Baladeer/Legend) but liked the sound of the new larger bowl. It's feels a bit larger than my Taylor 12's and 14's but not as large as 10's (dreadnaught) because the depth is in the middle not on the edges where the top meets the bowl. That makes it comfortable for me at (6'1" and slim). Its very easy to use. A strong point it the tuner that tells you which direction to go to bring it to pitch with a diamond when its right on the money. Downside is the tuner's auto shut off time limit may be a little quick. I thought the slide off you lap factor would be a problem. The rough texture and shape kept it right in positon. This is my first Ovation and the shape of the bowl means I can sit in a deck chair without worring about dinging the back or sides and the curved bowl allows extra room for the guitar so I don't need to sit on the edge of a chair to play. So far so good. I plan on pugging it in over the weekend and will add more comments. I was told that when the tuner is activate the line out to the amp is silenced. It this is true I am really stoked. Having said all that I am an old school "wooden" acoustic guy that liked Taylor's a lot and now I just found a new world to explore with a new tool. We are brothers.....

"Downside is the tuner's auto shut off time limit may be a little quick."

Correct. 2 minutes like the Intellitouch would be much better.

Welcome to the club.

BTW - you don't have to worry about dinging the back of the guitar, but it's quite possible to ding one of your wife's new dining chairs with the back of your O. Proceed with caution.

I found the autoshut off to be a bit quick. But once tuned, I find that the guitar stays in tune so well, that I only use the tuner as a check and to do little tweaks. Then the timeing is not bad at all.

It takes longer with nylon strings.

It will be interesting to see the reaction to this new bowl as it works it's way down the line. You were dead on right to choose it over the mid-bowl. With this being your first Ovation and concidering the other guitars in your collection, your opinions will be interesting to hear.
I'm a deep bowl guy myself. I have never had a problem with them sliding off my leg.

Welcome to the forum. :) Great bunch of guys and gals around here.

I'm no expert on Ovations, but I do own a Deacon for my legal reason to be here. I also have a Takamine A/E, which is part of the Kaman family, it's even in a Windsor softside case, which has Kamanmusic on it. :D

I was told that the Ovation strength was how it sounded plugged in. Yesterday I had some time to play the 2005 Collector through my SWR California Blonde and my first reaction was WOW! It sounded great. There was enough control on EQ on the preamp to make any tweek master happy. I like the button that allows you to switch from flat to EQ. Nice tone from bass to highs. I thought turning on the tuner section would silence the signal to the amp but this was not the case....no big deal. To overcome this I simply turned the volume down to tune although it was pretty much in tune out of the case. I am a very satisfied owner.
