Location: Warren,Pa. | Well...what's not to like about this guitar? For the crazy price of $650, this guitar has EVERY element that Ovation has to give it maximum quality sound. They can make it look fancier...maybe display workmanship in a more visually striking way. That aside, they don't make a guitar that sounds better. (I know a graphite top and fiberglass rim would improve things, but this isn't Adamas; it's Ovation.)
I was wondering how they inlay the finished Koa into the painted top. VERY nice touch, and like I said, I'll be looking for a Koa TRC. Anyone know where I can get one in this club?

I was imagining this would be built with no top binding and I was a little concerned about that...ready with sharpie-in-hand in case of accidents. It actually has a strip of black plastic binding.
Nice maple for the neck. Nothing too outstanding, a little stripe of pitch stain for 6 inches or so. Grain is slightly wavy. Not the perfect piece of wood that my mahogany-necked Ovations have, but nice just the same. The 2-pc. neck with all the goodies inside make me feel tons more comfortable about the long run than having a 1-pc neck like...say...Martin, Taylor, etc. (although IMHO Ovation got the idea for this new neck design straight from Bob Taylor. How can you improve it?)
I was expecting a lesser piece of Ebony for the fingerboard, like a good share of striping like Taylor uses for it's lower-end guitars. This looks to be about as perfect as it gets. I do wish they would sand the playing surface to a mirror finish like they used to in years back. Once the frets are in you can't really do anything more with it. I'm a sucker for wood that's been finished to perfection. Like all the Ovations of the last several years you see the striations from the machine...like 150 paper was the last thing to touch it. This was true even of my '02 Custom Legend 12, so it's just the way they do them all.
Is that enough detail? I have to mow, as we say in the country.

John <>{ Rick Hall explained this at the last factory tour. The epaulet is inlaid into the top first. The top is then glued to the bowl. The epaulet is then masked off when the top/bowl are painted. |

Location: Florida Central Gulf Coast | Sweet T #619371 just arrived. So a quicky initial report.
I'll concur with bauerhillboy's evaluation with a few extra observations.
First of all the neck was lighter in color than I had expected, albeit a nice piece of wood. It is a touch larger/deeper(?) than most of my other 'O's, but not uncomfortable at all.
The action was OK but I'll probably remove a shim on the next string change.
The inlay is absolutely perfect.
The low E string just BOOOOMS from the playing position as no other 'O' I have. I'll have to have someone play it with me sitting across from it in order to see if that makes a difference. Did I say it BOOOOMS?
A koa TRC would look nice. Though I'm not so sure as to the tuner buttons due to the light maple headstock edge.
The 'Sweet T' arrived with the strings detuned.
Nothing but the box and top/bottom cardboard supports for packing as al has noted before.
It's a great guitar/case/free shipping deal for the money, plus we know that so far there are only eleven of 'em.
Looking forward to other evaluations...  |

It's nice to t'see that the Factory has taken somewhat of a "green" initiative and utilized the scraps from all those koa guitars Al is sitting on . . .

StandingOvation once named the one-piece wooden epaulets "sh!7lets". At the time he was referring to the walnut ones, and the Koa DO look nice, but sometimes I sure do miss that pot-stirrer... |
