Had the opportunity to go hear Kottke last night.
Really enjoyed the show.
When I told people I was going they wanted to know what kind of music he played. All I could say was "He plays Kottke music."

He played about an equal number of pieces on the 6 and 12 string. A little slide on the 12.

Very impressive.

I regard Leo as a national treasure. And, a rather perverse wit.

I liked the way he did "Louise" and it was on my playlist back in college. I always liked a good whore song.

He's coming to Denver this summer and doing a show at the Botanic Gardens outdoor ampitheater. It is only a few blocks from the house and we regularly walk to these concerts, picnic basket in tow. We have tickets for Kottke, Glen Campbell an Loudan Wainwright III this year. Keb Mo was on the bill last year. We love it.

One of my favorites, too.
I remember his comment about his voice on that song. "Like goose farts on a muggy day".

How was his singing?

I think his singing is consistent with his "style". He doesn't have a great voice, but his fame is as a player. He uses his voice to tell the story of a song, but the playing is always number one.

He has a baritone voice with apparently a range from about low E on the guitar up an octave and a half or so. (speculation on my part.)

I always liked his version of the song. I like Paul Siebel's version too.

I find a little Leo goes a long way

A great player, I've always wanted to see him live.
