The “Wood Top Prototype” Ovation (#6), it’s the oldest existing sample guitar, and represents the evolution of Ovation guitar making over 50 years.

(#22) “Adamas Carbon” is one of the oldest remaining Adamas carbon fiber prototypes, and features unique “Bear Claw” sound-holes. This design greatly influenced the release of the new 1198, and exemplifies 40 years of Ovation carbon fiber guitar innovation. The position marker inlays on the fret board also inspired the markers on the new Adamas Viper.

I seem to be in the minority but I personally LOVE the look of the bearclaw...not that I will be able to afford a 1198...but a boy can dream

I can neither confirm nor deny that no one saw something or nothing.

I LOVE that too!! Although, I do like Prototype #23 better, The Holiest of Holy Grails!!

I can't tell you how my heart just *stopped* when I saw that one of the 50th Anniversary pieces was a derivative of that #23 (or more exactly, #22 - same headstock). That will be the closest I will ever get to touching #23, and I am absolutely THRILLED!!!!

Adamas Viper???? I'm listening....

I'm with you. That's one nice looking guitar. Can we get a close up of the head stock on the 1198?

"Adamas Viper"? Will we (vicariously) see that at NAMM?

My apologies, got too excited...
the headstocks on both #23 (Adamas I headstock) and #22 (Adamas II headstock) are nothing like the 1198 at all... Duh... slothead....

I went to the factory in 2013 to take pictures for that year's calendar. In a rare attempt at planning and foresight, I took loads of photos in with the anticipation that I would be able to use them for backgrounds for a while to come. It also helped that John got a phone call and had to abandon me in the old musem room for far too long to be good for my GAS.

Then of course, the plant got Fendered-Up.

So it's nice to get a chance to finally give Old #6 a bit of a spotlight. Here are some pictures that may still get in the calendar one day, but I would prefer to use new ones from the new digs or some other appropriate venue.

Glad to see 6 is still around, my first guitar. I have an Adamas Viper, got to be 20 years old, a carbon top viper with the dodge sound holes painted gloss Viper red. It's my avatar over on the Tak site. I did see one of the new Ovations with the bear claw sound holes, looked real nice but it looked like a 12 fret. There was a list of all the specs of some of the new 50/40th guitars.

Yeah, love the bear claws, that's why I used them on the Adamas 3 model, the one with grafite necks made by Rob Greene of Status.
