I met guitar builder extraordinaire Neal Moser by insulting his nuts in a public forum. I thought the new guitars he built were awesome but to me it looked like the nuts were plastic because they were shiney and took away from the overall look of the guitars. I got a phone call. He actually sourced bone from a local butcher, cured it, and carves and polishes them by hand. Yeah... it's been over 10 years... we still get a LOT of mileage out of that exchange.

Half the time they would snap or shatter on the final cut arrrgh. I just remember how bad that bone smelled when we machined it...it was hideous.
