Never seen before. Does anyone know
1. why this guitar has 2 control knobs? different pickups?
2. what´s the solid 4-screw-mounted rear access door for? Never realized on a center-hole guitar.

Pure GAS...

Dear Michel, there was big discussion here https://www.facebook.com/groups/1440002466252339/permalink/240167091...

Seller confirmed me today 2 preamp boxes are vol and tone (standard adamas stereo system from 1978), but one of boxes moved on the top nobody know why. Both stacked knobs are decorative, each box has only one shaft.

I pretty sure this was employee’s guitar and seems it was repaired already.

This is early adamas deep bowl thus access hole located on the right side.

Best,

Gypsy was some guy who bought several guitars. I think he had a 9 string made like this too. not sure of the back door but the rest would have been what he ordered.

Thank you Beal and MatureWolf, I read the discussion on fb. The seller added some pics. Surely it is no Anniversary-line Ovation, just the top colour is the same. The guitar has the top bracing of the 70´s Glen Campbell / pacemaker guitars, with repairs which could have done better with such handling space through the rear door.... The early CL 12 fret have the same bracing but better wood quality. Anyway, the 12 fret 12strings are the best. Mine has lots of cracks and heavy repairs done but is one of my favourite 12strings.
I still don´t see the function of the 2 preamps, one for volume and one for tone?? I can´t believe that, there must be an other reason.
Too bad that the guitar is in the U.S. , the price plus shipping plus customs/taxes is quite high...

Michel,

based on seller reply and photos from seller:

there is original stereo Adamas preamp system (known also as 2-knobs). It comprises of two metal boxes: one for FET Stereo preamp+Vol potentiometer and another for battery+Tone potentiometer.

On this guitar - stacked knobs installed on both boxed instead of wood knobs, and one box moved to the neck area (kind of strange "guitar tuning").

Most interesting for me - seems, this is K-bar guitar (two screw heads clearly seen from inside)! That's the case! If fact, only adamases had K-bar these times (1978) and "serial" 1658s are non-K-bar also...

I agree, repair was poor ;-(

Best,

MatureWolf: I doubt it. No K-bar neck has a trussrod screw on the head. This looks like a normal 1658 neck. OR the TRC is just fake, but I doubt that there ever was a 12fret slothead neck with k-bar. But maybe a bolt-on neck solution because of the Adamas body.

I added a carved TR on my Black Pearl because I thought the head stock needed to be darkened.

Totally phony, but it makes the guitar look better, IMO.

I think this IS Kbar guitar I clearly saw two screw heads inside Adamas body (seller sent me couple of inner photos).

This IS possible to have Kbar inside 12fretter 12string slothead. I play such UTE681 12 string version. Moreover, this is more reliable then huge extra hole on neckhead for trussrod nut...

Best,

Alex, my Adamas 1685 is a K-bar guitar. The neck is fixed with two bolts and there is a long brass-bolt for the TR adjustment next to the fretboard side. Can you see that too?

Hi Bernie!

Never seen such configuration of Adamas 1685 (usual 1685 truss rod nut located inside bowl).

My point was: 1658 Custom we discussed above is Kbar guitar (regardless TR nut placement inside or outside bowl).

Best,
