A poster, on another forum, has asked for help identifying his 'Ovation' guitar. It does not appear to be an Ovation -- at least not with the usual Kaman legacy/sensibilities.

The head stock logo is not one I recognize as being legit. But not saying it isn't. Font, all cap's, and the "O" depiction/placement troubles me tho.

My general query would be: Did Ovation build any 'more traditional' bodied (non-round) acoustics?

(PS: I'm an old guy, I've enjoyed several early Balladeers, and more recently, an Ultra 12 string that was appreciated by everyone who took it for a spin. Heaviest guitar I've ever owned -- and a great 12 string.

Thanks for the forum, and your efforts, in advance.

That MIGHT be an Ovation neck added to a whatever body.
Maybe a homemade project.
But that Headstock Logo is all wrong.

Yes, KAMAN put it's name on some woodbox guitars.
But I think that we are talking about other companies contracted to make those woodbox guitars.
Montana, Sierra, Amigo, some other weird travel guitar that I cannot remember.
There are Takamine guitars, but Kaman didn't really "Make" them, just distributed them.

But I think that That is just a compilation of parts with a homemade logo.

I don't even think it's an ovation neck based on how it's mounted and the back of the neck.. Interesting tho...

I thought, "Looks like they made the fake necks, and then couldn't come up with the fake bowl bodies. Slapped em on whatever they could get."

I don't think the owner will be too disappointed. I don't think he had a lot invested, and I infer it plays to his satisfaction.

I think 'interesting' is perhaps the best we can do.

Thanks OFC.

Update: owner has contacted Facebook Ovation Page, and understands his guitar is, "... more than likely a prototype ...".

I was around, during the early Ovation days, (some) working in a professional musicians' shop. Never saw anything (remotely) so crude come from Ovation.

I think the new owner want$ it to be very $pecial. $o in hi$ reality it i$.

(I once convinced myself, temporarily, that a $50 kijiji Taro appeared to be solid rosewood b/s -- it more than likely wasn't)

+1 not an Ovation, not an Ovation prototype -- just a temporarily interesting rummage sale find.

I won't be bidding.
