I am trying to find info on what would be a fair price to pay. I would love to get that "great deal" but am happy to pay a fair price. I believe this one is what the Book Elite was based off of (the original). I appreciate all advice on fair market value. Thanks!

If you really want that model (some consider it to be the best Collector's) then there's no shame in paying what you are willing to. That said, there is one on Ebay at $1700 that is from Japan. I have had one on Craiglsit and Facebook for $1800. The term "Mint Condition" gets abused often. They are worth what someone is willing to pay and most are priceless favorites to some of us.

But if you've got the money and not just shopping for a bottom feeder deal then what the hell ... go for it. I doubt very much you would be disappointed and in a few months probably won't even remember what you paid for it.

Woodrow is right. if you only want to pay "market, you have to spend some time with doing DD in the secondary outlets...not on a forum asking for opinions.

But: I was looking for a 87 for years, the only one I found some time ago was in France, they asked 3000, way too much, but I was seriously thinking about it! The 87 is one of the guitars with a real "aura" around it, a rare bird like a Mercedes 190 "Pagode"... I had a "BOOK" elite ,too and a NAKAO Elite but the 87, although seemingly the same construction, was an obvious winner. What you should know: the 87 is a very special guitar, it will not replace an all-purpose tool like a Martin D28. The 87 is a guitar with a lyric note, very bright, balanced midrange even in the higher registers, not a rock axe like an Adamas 1687 and not a bassy songwriter-guitar like a Custom legend. This guitar sings if you play it precisely but it will not cover mistakes like other guitars do, you have to play every single note and let it grow and then it rings like a bell. Kind of a Jazz guitar, archtop-like attacks, nice dynamics but not a very long sustain. It´s a guitar for these quiet hours when you sit on your sofa and you just let everything flow and after several hours you will wonder where the evening went. I have a nice small collection of Ovations, and the 87 really is one of my favourites, but I would not want to have it as an "only" guitar. If you have more than one guitar you should consider to get a guitar like this, maybe for a little less than 2000 but that depends on what it´s worth for you. You go for vintage gear not by reason, but by gut feeling, and if this is right, the price is secondary.
