I have a 1613-4 nylon string that I bought new in 1974 and it's still great but when I use my 1968 Fender Deluxe Reverb amp (also bought new) it sounds very bright even with the treble turned to zero. When I run it through a mixer with the HI EQ set to zero and the amp treble set to zero it sounds great through the amp. It also sounds very bright when I record with the piezo pickup through the mixer with HI EQ set to zero. I'd like to find a solution to avoid using a mixer and I'm thinking about building a PI tone circuit into a cord. I've spent some time searching the archives without finding a solution. Any Ideas?

Background: I don't remember it sounding so bright through the amp when it was new, maybe something has changed (?) As the original owner, I guess is't still under warranty after 45 years.

Cool! thank you. I've been an Ovation fan since the beginning (when I was little kid :-) so maybe I have something to contribute to the forum.

Follow up on my own question: I dug out a capacitor substitution box that I built in high school electronics class and determined a .022mfd shunted (across) the line attenuated the "brightness" to normal, like when my 1613 was new. .022mfd seems like a lot which raises the question if the piezo pickup deteriorated over time and why (?). I want the ability to plug into any amp with any cord and I am very confident of this mod so I will solder a .022 across the the output jack next time I change strings but in the mean time I'd love to hear any thoughts.

Like I said... I know nothing about electronics, capacitors, and especially soldering.
But there are members who dabble in that stuff. I just ain't one of them.

I done it! :-)
I loosened the strings and removed the output jack and soldered a .02mfd ceramic capacitor across the line and it sounds perfect! Not sure why the pickup frequency response changed but it did and this solution worked for me.

Not afraid to solder! (the "L" in solder is silent btw :-)
