Hi Everyone,

I'm hoping that somebody would be willing to weigh in on what my guitar might be worth?

Really it's my dad's. He passed away in 2001, and I've just looked after it ever since.

Any German members of this forum, of a particular age, might be familiar with a book called "Der Picker", which did have a cult following of sorts. Gerd Kröll, my dad, was the author of that book!

Anyway, I'm not suggesting that my dad was famous enough to be adding value to the guitar, but since this is an Ovation fan club, I thought some might appreciate knowing a little history about this guitar. This very same guitar can actually be seen in another book he wrote, and was used for the chord demonstrations. Although it was my mum's less sausage like, and therefore more photogenic fingers that ended up in the photos!

Purely anecdotal, I remember my dad telling me that he was next after Cat Stevens, to receive his guitar.

The guitar is all original, but the case was replaced at some point with a new black one.

My dad told me he requested Ovation wire the stereo in a different way than was the norm. I'm not a guitarist, and I don't even have an amp to test anything. Id probably be petrified of plugging it in anything anyway. If that's true, perhaps this is a custom model, would that count?

I've come to the difficult decision that I need to sell. The trouble is that there are very few current listings, they don't quite match this one, and prices vary wildly. There doesn't appear to be any actual sales at all recently.

So I've not got much to go on, other than a vague sense that the value is probably greater than £2500, could be as much as £4000, probably sitting in that range. But, with just a hint of a chance that it might be even more..

Any help, advice or guidance before I put this guitar up for sale would be much appreciated.

Photos are difficult to post here. It's always been that way!

The model number and serial number will be critical in coming up with a value. Photos of the sticker will help.

The condition of the instrument will be of primary importance to the value. Secondary will be any custom features such as unique stereo wiring. Those of us who are interested in the history of the Ovation/Adamas company are getting older by the minute, meaning that the historical value is limited in general. There are a few very specific instruments which might command a premium for historical reasons, so do post photos!

The wide neck will certainly interest some potential buyers. It probably is not a detractor for other buyers.
