| Hello To All-
I just discovered this forum site and am in hopes of garnering some badly needed info.
I recently acquired an old Tornado that has been badly modified with some Gibson T top pickups. all else seemed ok as far as tuners tailpiece saddle and bridge are all original, as well as the pots and switch. The luthier I am using has sent off for a pair of DiMarzio pickups, new wiring switch, pots and caps. While awaiting delivery he set about trying to get the setup on the guitar to the point of playability. Alas, there seems to be some anomaly in the neck pocket that is causing a 4+mm deficit in getting action to somewhat standard dimension. The bridge is set to the top, the neck is straight with no bowing or back bowing, the neck is not twisted and the frets are in good shape. He has tried shimming the neck but is shimming only at the heel. The neck angle is too pronounced at this point (2mm) to proceed. I recommended he shim the whole pocket so as not to alter the angle of the neck to the body, but I am not sure this is a workable solution either. This guitar has the earlier wood screws and not the machine threaded ones seen on later models. Does anyone here have any similar experience with this sort of issue on a Storm series guitar?
Can anyone maybe suggest and alternative to just shimming the snot out of it? I surely would appreciate any help you all might be able to render. Thanks for taking time to read this. |
