Joined: December 2004 Posts: 4 Location: Canada | .....hi....new member....first post....is there anyone out there who can tell me a little about an Ovation Electric I've had since 1987....the Ovation home page wasn't able to provide much except that it was made only for one year--1971-- and it was called a THUNDERHEAD, part of the "Electric Storm" series....the serial # is 1233-2, H446.....it looks like a Gibson etc. double cutaway ES-335 thinline....it is a beautiful figured burgundy cherry colour with gold hardware and double gold pickups....it has a white pickhuard with the Ovation logo and the usual Ovation headstock with logo.....it is a 6 string with a bolt-on neck and gold trapeze tailpiece....ebony fretboard and thinline frets and it sounds sweet.....4 knob controls......anyway, I've been searching for years on any kind of info or history......once upon a time many years ago, before desktop computers, I asked world famous Mandolin Bros. in New York and they came up with zero......I'm not looking to sell and I don't care how much it's worth bcuz I'll never sell it, but I've been wondering for years about this guitar....from the Ovation spread sheet I was able to find that they made another model during either 1971 or 1971 to 73, called a Tornado, although I have no clue what that model looks like.....anyway, if anyone knows anything about this model, I'd love to hear from you.....molly22_22@hotmail.com.....thanks | ||

Joined: December 2004 Posts: 4 Location: Canada | ....wow, you guys are great!!!!....many thanx to those who replied, especially Standing Ovation.....I clicked on the link to the pictures and there it was!!!!....my guitar....the style and colour is exactly like the third one from the left, but without the whammy bar......mine has the simple trapeze tailpiece similar to the extreme right hand model.....must go back now and explore bcuz I rushed thru' the replies....again, many thanx to EVERYONE.....this has been something like a personal grail hunt for me for years.....thanx again!!!! | ||

Joined: December 2004 Posts: 4 Location: Canada | .......WOW again!!!!!!.....I just looked at the new Thunderhead page----a big thanks to whoever added it-----and I looked and read the catalogue.....now I know what that toggle switch is for....could never figure it out....it's an out of phase switch!!!!.....SHADES OF PETER GREEN!!!!!!......after I'm thru' here I'm going straight up to my fortress of solitude, hook up my SMALL STONE pedal (which for some reason I've never ever done with this particular guitar----I've always loved it's clean un adulterated sound) and see what my out of phase Peter Green toggle switch sounds like thru' the Small Stone phaser......double out of phase??????.....cheers...(P.S., ...I've changed to a smiley face now) | ||

Joined: December 2004 Posts: 4 Location: Canada | .....I stand corrected on an earlier post wherein I described the pickguard on the Thunderhead as white.....it is 5 layers of black and white colours.....3 thick white black white layers, with paper thin top and bottom black layers with the Ovation script engraved thru' the top black to expose the underlying white surface....thanks to cwk2 on this one | ||
