Hi Guys & Gals,

Just got back from my trip to "Music City".

I've been there before but still did all the tourist things.

Grand Ole Opry, Country Music Hall of Fame,Gruhns Guitars.

The only Ovations I saw were Tanya Tucker's Guitarist was playing an Adamas at the Opry and a custom made Balledeer of Glen Campbells at the Hall of Fame.

I did however play a Santa Cruz 13 fret slothead at the Gibson Showcase in Opry Mills. It had an OM size body 13 fret slothead and a truly amazing sound. It also had an amazing price $4,195. It's still there.

BTW The night we went to the Opry they were celebrating George Jones's 75th birthday.
He doesn't look that bad for an Old Possum.

We were so far up in the Opry House they were giving out oxygen masks. :D

Were you out at the "new" old opry or the original Ryman Auditorium? Just curious.

Mike, It looks like you're having a great time!

The one and only time I was in Nashville was about 1972 (I was just a young pup)....I'm sure alot of things have changed since then.

I'd like to go back again sometime....

'bout all I remember of Nashville (the company I started out with had a training center there) was the Drake Motel, Ryman Auditorium (saw a taping of The Johnny Cash Show) and TGIFriday's across the street from Vanderbilt U. yeeeeeeehaw!

oh yea, and Printer's Alley. Had a sit down with Doug Kershaw one night when he was out and kickin' around.

Spending a night on Broadway is highly educational, very fun and makes me very humble to see the talent playing in the bars for tips. One of those places where you truly can see live music being played 24 hours a day.

For those with Bluegrass inclinations, there is an awesome Bluegrass club about 10 minutes off the top end of Broadway (up the Hill and turn left). When I was last there 2 years ago, they were doing loads of development and I was walking my wife through construction in the dark trying to find it. My wife seriously thought we were going to be murdered :-)

When we got there we saw phenomenal performers and had a great time at a minimal cover charge. The venue is Station Inn
402 12th Avenue South, Nashville, TN, 615.255.3307. I heartily reccomend it as an alternative to the classic and current hit country songs being played on Broadway.

That and the Opry just has to be the most phenomenal place to go see some big name stars in snapshot and also get a chance to see an extremely broad range of 'country' music. The night my wife and I went, the headliners were Dirks Bentley, Trace Adkins and Sara Evans. But the highlights for me personally was seeing George Hamilton IV who was one of the original country artists I saw on the BBC that got me interested in country music when I was pre-teen. He used to perform on the Val Doonican variety show.

However he brought onstage for 3 numbers a Scottish guy called Alistair MacDonald...probably means nothing to you, but this guy is a Scottish folk singer/musician who brought the world of Ovation into my life. Alistair was well known in Scotland and had his own music/variety shows on Scottish Television and the BBC in the 70's. On the shows he used a 1618-4 Glen Campbell 12 and what I suspect was a Legend. He played at our local folk club when I was 15 and because there were only 50 people in, at the break he let me play the 1618 beastie. I was in love and will be for ever...Ovation GAS assured for the rest of my life. Thanks Alistair... and of all places to see him....on the stage of the Opry, in 2005. My wife will testify that I was so shocked and taken aback that I actually did cry....

Stuart,

I've met George Hamilton IV when he performed at Dollywood. A really nice down to earth guy. I sang at a church service in which he also sang.

This was the line up for the Opry my wife and I went to.

Little Jimmy Dickens, ( He's 85 and can still sing really well)
Joe Diffie, Sammy Kershaw, Billy Ray Cyrus, Craig Morgan, Tanya Tucker, Joe Nichols, Allison Krauss+Union Station,( What Great Musicians),Dierks Bentley, and The Possum himself George Jones.

It was a really great show. It's fun to watch the stage crew change set ups during the commercials.
