Phil Harris, Capt. of the F/V Cornelia Marie on the Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch crab fishing show has died as a result of a massive stroke. Like probably many of you, I have watched this show since it began...one of the best on TV in my opinion.
I wish his family well and thanks for letting the public into the incredibly dangerous world of Alaskan Crab fishing.
Having worked on a crab boat in the Chesapeake as a boy, I can appreciate the hard and dangerous life, although the Bering Sea is certainly much different than the Chesapeake Bay.
RIP Phil!

They did last season's wrap-up show in my son's stepdad's bar and grill in San Diego. My son was hired by the show for the week to be some sort of communications liaison for the production crew. He loved it.

Not to mention the 150 people that died this week in an avalanche in Afganistan. What a terrible fate and tragedy.

I was sad to hear about Phil also. I watch the show and he was an interesting guy. I think this is testament for what a life of hard living alcohol tabaco and drugs, coffee, not sleeping or eating right can do to the body. He was 53 but seemed more like 73.

this is not to take away from the avalanche victims either.

time to shovel snow ......again

I agree Al...

I just heard about the Avalanche...awful...

Thankfully, although we may have to shovel snow, there is not much chance of an Avalanche...unless it keeps snowing like it is now...we are having a real blizzard and have been since midnight...

It's true he didn't do much to take care of himself... still unfortunate.

I watch that show a lot, it is very entertaining. I like Crab occasionally but I personally don't like enough for anyone to risk their lives to get it for me. I can order chicken and save the lives and drama of procuring crabs.

I got to meet Phil and Johathan Hillstrand a couple of years ago. Phil was exactly the way he is in person as he is on the show...loud, brash and really really funny. He will be sorely missed.
