Mike you may be the one I have not noticed any others signed up but Miles would know for sure. I can say that you are probably the first one to post from S. Africa

Thanks Alpep.

If there is another member from S Africa, it would be nice to know who they are.

Do you guys ever sleep? It seems as if lots of members are logged on in the early hours of the morning, or have I got my time zones mixed up.

I can't tell you how amazing it is to me to be conversing with someone in South Africa. My generation was lucky if we could talk to our uncle in California. This internet is a great thing. I'm retired and I generally go on line in the early morning hours here in New Mexico because it's quiet and everybody's in bed except me. I spent many early years working night shifts and became used to late night hours and played in bars also which generally is done in the night hours. Watch the country music TV shows for a band appearing early in the morning to see some totally confused people. This board is becoming international, so post when it's convenient and I'm sure you will get plenty of discussion when the "early to bed" fellows get up. I believe the music is the same world wide.

I agree, the internet is an amazing thing, and music is music, wherever you happen to be in the world. It's also great to hear different musical cultures mix it together sometimes. Do you remember when Paul Simon cut an album in South Africa in the 80's with "Ladysmith Black Mambazo" who are a local South African outfit. - DIAMONDS IN THE SOLES OF MY SHOES...

Recently there was a CD released entitled "One Giant Leap". It was created by a couple of guys who went out with a couple of mics, a laptop, and a basic musical theme. They then trotted around the globe getting local musicians/singers to add their interpretation of the aforementioned "theme" using instruments and musical flavors indigeonous to their locale. The result was a cohesive set of songs utilizing all these musical styles. Pretty cool.

Bob Brozman has been doing a similar thing. He's the main National Resophonic guitar guy. He was mostly in africa I think. I think he's at bobbrozman.com

Paul Simon's African excursion is fresh in my mind, that's about the time I left CA and moved to New Mexico and I have been a fan of both Simon and Garfunkle in all their permutations. I'm also wating for Ernie Els and Tiger to duke it out this year.

In South Africa, we say Ya! (Translation - "I agree fully") - Tiger & Ernie are aways worth watching.

Bill;
Brozman's pretty well-renowned in the slack key circles as well, yes?
