Yes - and No. Value is in the eye of the beholder.

In the end, all you're paying for is the guitar, so no.

Sure. There's less of these than #47s, AND you've got AlDi's signature on it. It's an exact duplicate of his signature guitar, not some lame facsimile. If I was a big Al fan, then it's well worth it, considering a stock version will cost you close to $2500 new. I have NEVER seen one of these come available before, so I assume they are very dear to the original owners.

Since Les has passed now, my signed and documented Les Paul Custom has certainly appreciated and will continue to do so (at least for Insurance purposes...It's NFS...)

+1 Bobbo. The guitar alone new retails for almost that much (and should, given the quality), plus a genuine AD sig can make it "worth it" to a DiMeola fan. And why not? Martin charges a premium for an EC or John Mayer sig guitar.

Aren't All Al Dimeola Ovations signed?

Just like all the Melissa Etheridge Adami are signed?

Al signed the face of 50 guitars for some charity. It was 3-4 years ago. At the time Sam Ash had one on sale for $3000. There was nothing different about them and a regular old ADII except for the signature. There was a press release on the Kaman Music site about it.

I'm thinking you can find an AD just about any time for way less than 2k, (I've seen them in mint shape for as little as 700.00), and I would think anyone could go through the proper channels and get Al D to sign just about anything you wanted him to on it for way less than 1.5k. Maybe I'm just oversimplifying it, but that's my take.

Signatures are worth whatever premium the buyer is willing to pay. Many folks wouldn't pay anything for a signature, and there may be some who look at a signature as actually devaluing the guitar. If it was the right artist and I just happened to have a guitar and an appropriate writing instrument handy, I might go after it, as I did when Glen Campbell came to town. There may be a few others, but they'd have to be related in some manner to the product or item being signed. I think there are thousands of collectors who'd consider paying a huge premium for an old Fender amp signed by Leo himself, assuming it could be authenticated. Because of the premium some people place on signatures, the creation and distribution of fraudulent products is a lucrative business.
