I don't know if this has been discussed before, but can one change the pickup saddle(s) without discarding the whole pickup?
Also, have many of you tried the bone saddle version of the standard "O" pickup and what do you think of it?

Wayne, I know that the little plastic "saddle" part of the pickup can be popped off and on, but who would make a bone replacement part?

If someone who paints is called a painter, and someone who bakes is called a baker, than I can only guess what you call someone who makes bone replacement parts.

W2 made a comment about one or two of bone saddles being his at one time. Not sure what you call yourself when you get one either.

The saddle on the older pickups is replaceable, but as far as I understand may not be on the currect version, check with Kim or John.

I have a bone version on my Custom Folklore, which is an incredible-sounding guitar, but like any guitar it's the sum of the parts, not down to a single factor.

Ovation does have bone saddles available...just wasn't sure if they slipped on over the original pickup or if you had to buy the whole unit.

A "bonehead"? And another thing - if it's called a saddle, why isn't a bridge called a horse? No cowpoke ever saddled up a bridge and rode off into the sunset. ("Shane...Shane...come back, Shane!)

has anyone tried changing the saddles on a ukII to plastic or bone. the brass saddles are the point at which all string failure occurs due to galvanic corrosion. i'm lucky to get 4-5 actual hours of playing time out of the high e and b strings. i have tried lots od bandaid solutions with limited success. kind of defeats the metal to metal contact the guitar has, but i almost have to change strings before a gig to be sure i wont break one.

Miles, Sam or the factory might have an early Breadwinner bridge. They had nylon saddles, which would cure your problem.

The bone saddles are for the original style pickup and yes they can be popped out and replaced. Be careful. I don't think there ever were any bones made for a UK2, just the nylon and they only fit the Ovation made bridge, not the Schaller.

bill, how do you think the nylon saddles would affect the sound on a uk2? all of my uk's have bronze/brass saddles on both style bridges. i haven't seen one with nylon ones, but i almost snagged the ones from my breadwinner to try them. it became my synth guitar though and i wont mess with it now. would ovation still have those saddles?

thanks
