I just received my 2007 Collectors. I bought it new from a music store on ebay. I tuned it right away and found that it had a bit of fret buzz on the last three strings when playing hard.(they told me their guitar guy set it up) Either the store pulled one or more shims or they may have adjusted the truss rod, I don't know. But I tweeked the truss rod back a bit and solved SOME of the buzz. I also noticed what I perceive as a couple finish flaws that look like the beginnings of surface cracks, near one edge of the bridge and a couple rubs and scuffs along the binding. I'm sure it probably sat on the floor of the shop and was handled a lot. Anyway, I will probably be sending it back to the factory to have the finish issues addressed, since it is a "new" guitar. ...(Do you think I'm I being too fussy here or not?) As far as the way it plays ... The sound is excellent, but I'm sure it will improve even more as it breaks in. Lots of nice clear lows, highs, and everything in between. Nice action on the ebony fretboard, and playability is VERY smooth. I haven't had a chance to play with the VIP electronics yet, but I am itching to get at that soon. Overall it stacks up very well with my other guitars. I'm new to the deep contour bowl, and it feels "ok". The guitar was well worth the $950 I paid for it as they are selling for twice that much on many other on-line music store web sites. I am confident the factory will adequately correct any issues if I send it in. This is actually the first "new" gutar that I have ever purchased, even though I said I would never purchase a new one.

Bryan, even tho it is called "new", isn't this part of the batch that was FRG? (and why they were priced so low)?

Regardless, great price for a great guitar but you might want to verify since the warranty and such might be different than you expect.

The seller (a MS music store) stated in their ad this is not an FRG. I also called and discussed the guitar with them and they said it was new, and had the full factory warranty.

Great guitar. From the pics, those don't look like the beginnings of surface cracks, but just unevenness of the wood. Surface cracks (I assume that those are the same as laquer cracks), don't really happen any more due to the newer methods and materials used to seal and finish the top.....

It sounds GREAT accept for the remaining fret buzz when I lay it on a bit. The action feels good and low. I think I'll put the scale on it and check the actual distance from the 5th fret across the strings. The dealer said they had a guy set it up, but I don't know what he actually did. It would be great if all I did was finger picking, but I play quite a variety of music and some heavy picking sometimes. So Moody ... Do you think my concerns about the top are not woth worrying about? I did notice some other comments about problems from 2007BCS owners here.

I've got no issues at all with my 2007BCS. Two things I wish were different -- 1) I wish they'd used something other than Mistral for the font at the 12th fret ... I am just so tired of that font, and 2) I wish they had bookmatched tops, especially since it's got the bearclaw it it.

My set up was near perfect, and it came directly from the factory. I have not changed anything about it yet. Action might be a little high for some folks, but I think the action is set for maximum tone and volume and not necessarily lowest action.

Today I bought my 2007 collection, I travelled all day long to get to the store, 200 km far away from where I live.

The guitar had three shims, the action was very high, so I tried with just one, there was some buzz on the sixth string, so I custom made a shim thinner than the the ones provided...now the action is flawless on all the fretboard, therefore I assume that the opener had a problem with a particular guitar, anyway he should check how many shims are under the bridge and that the neck is straight.

When I got my 2078T it had three shims under there also...
Maybe that has become the new standard?

And Welcome Alex!

Thank you for the welcome, Old man...

I bought my custom legend in 2004 and it also had threes shims if I recall correctly, personally, I'd like to have a "oblique" shims in order to have the action of the low strings a little higher, this way you can also play with one shim...

Anyway, for the problems with the 2007s, it could be a good idea to signal the serial number, mine, for instance, is 107 and it doesn't have any quality issues that were signaled on this board.
