Location: Denver, PA | I've been given the go ahead to buy a new toy :D . I want to get a digital recorder, and I had just been assuming that would be the iDea preamp, however as the moment when I need to pull the trigger approaches, and I do a little research, it seems that the Zoom Hn4 might be a valid option. It looks to me like the trade-offs are convenience (iDea) vs features (Zoom).
Has anyone had an opportunity to compare the options? Any preferences, or other thoughts?

Location: Phoenix AZ | The iDEA is just for quick/dirty recordings to practice with or bring as background tracks for a gig. I love the thing to death, but it's not really a full fledged "recorder" by my definition.
Call or email Lost Art Vintage and get yourself an OLYMPUS LS-10. You'll be amazed at the high quality recordings, abundant features and low price. Many members here have bought these from Al and are very pleased with them.

I picked up a Zoom H2 a year or so ago. Lovely. Brilliant quality sound, and simple and ridiculously portable.
If I were buying today, I'd think long and hard about one of the new "YouTube" recorders like the Kodak Zi8. It doesn't have the quality stereo mic's that the audio-only units do, but its still amazing.

Location: Denver, PA | Thanks for the feedback. Does the LS-11 have the XLR/ .25'' RCA input options that the Zoom H4n has?
(I did scan the net before asking :) and it looks like it will accept an external mic or line input), but I didn't see a reference to an XLR input. |

If I remember correctly a Zoom 1266CD and a Zoom H4n. |

Location: Hanau, Hessen, Germany | Check the songs on my Ningsite, they are recorded with the ZoomH4n (except Meutis Mix). As I am a noob in homerecording you get a good impression of what the little thing is able to do even if the user doesn't have a clue ;) |

Meuti, your version of 16 Tons on the ning site inspired me to try a little Travis picking. Good version - and I've been enjoying trying out a new style. Thanks
