Question: I'm learning electric guitar and don't have a decent electric amp. I have a 15 watt electric amp (Crate GFX15?) but it doesn't have a preamp out. It has the reverb, distortion, etc. I have a nice GB Shen Jr. Acoustic too. What I'm wondering is this: is there any way to use the effects on the electric and patch it into the acoustic for better sound and still have access to the electric effects.

Otherwise I can just get an effects pedal. Any recommendation (Temp, Jason)?

Does either amp have a headphone out?

Yep, both of them. Can I run a line from the small (read: crappy) electric amp's headphone plug to the input on the acoustic?

Exactly! I don't want to blow my acoustic amp.

Try it at low volume first.

NOTE: some headphone outputs have DC voltage on them, check it first.

If the outer sleeve is plastic beware.

Ditch the cheap electric amp and look on Ebay for a used Johnson J-station, Digitech Genesis, Korg Ampworks or similar amp modeller. They can be had real cheap and you'll get more than acceptable electric guitar tones from your Genz Benz using one of those. I've been gigging lately with my lap-steel through a Korg Ampworks direct into a Bose L1. Just replaced the Korg with a Boss FDR-1 which specifically models a Fender '65 Deluxe Reverb. Very impressive pedal, costs around $150 and is really easy to use.

Paul,
Is that the pedal with the tremolo? I was wondering how it sounds. The regular boss trem pedal has "phit-phit" throb when the guitar is silent. Does the FDR-1 eliminate the phit-phit?

Yes it has tremolo, in fact It has exactly the same control layout as a Deluxe reverb. I haven't experienced the problem you describe with the FDR-1. Only criticism I have is the decay on the reverb is a little too short. That said, it fits in my lap steel gigbag and weighs next to nothing, so I'll live with it.
