Find myself looking to buy a guitar stand since getting my first Adamas. Any suggestions. I looked locally and they just didn't seem to have much protection to keep from scaring the instrument.

Thanks..Terry

I use the Hercules and wouldn't be without them... they have a great locking feature and are very stable... check them out:

Hercules

Guitar Center or most other Music/Guitar Shops carry them... I got mine at Christmas for about $26.00 ea.

Some months back I got a nice stand from Musicians Friend. It was a Hercules with a soft neck grab and a part that the back leaned against (not the rotating saddle type). I have hot been able to find another like it since!

K&M stands, made in Germany but available in the states. The best I have found.Do a search for K&M stands and you will find dealers.

I only use Hercules or Ultimate. Don't waste your money on a cheap stand. I mean, would you buy a cheap condom ???

I can tell you what *not* to get. I bought a Kaman 'Ultra' stand a while back for a spare & it was a POS. (Sorry Kaman, but that China made thing really was a POS!) It was very unstable & top heavy. My dog barely brushed my 1858 with her tail & the whole works fell over. Fortunately it landed up against the couch & no damage was done. I cut the piece that holds the bottom of the guitar off & moved it down 3 inches & welded it back on, then extended the rear leg about another three inches. Now it's ok, but if you don't have a wire feed welder handy you don't want a Kaman Ultra.

You need a stand with a LOW center of gravity.

...

let me know if you ever find a Hercules type equivalent for the banjo... I'm currently using a Fender guitar stand that just about sucks...

Go with the Hercules. They're great!
I use Hamiltons and Ultimates at home and a Hercules for gigs.
The Ulimates are really good. They're very sturdy and fold up into a compact, stowable package. The Hercules that I have is a double guitar stand and safely holds my 6 and my 12 in JUST a little bit more space as a single stand. The cradle mechanism that holds the neck/headstock is really secure, but may be subject to going out of alignment when mishandled into the gig vehicle at the end of the night by over-tired fuckwits buzzed on free "house beer" (yours truly). Through the gracious generosity of Master Templeman, I slip the stand into a seperate nylon stand bag before it goes into the main duffle with all the other stands. Keeps the mechanisms from getting caught on the other stands and knocked out of alignment.
Even when it does happen, it's easy to remedy.
GREAT stands!

The Hercules gets the vote. It's all I use (aside from the nail in the wall and the Levy leather strap between the machine heads for hanging.

Tim, The hercules will work perfect with a banjo. You just need to buy two small pieces of foam rubber to put on the sides of the jaw to make it fit the narrower neck.
