I have never seen one with a paper tag. Too bad it became a victim of Sandy. I am serisouly  thinking about offering refuge to her. I assuming it would have to be one of the earliest '71's?

Cool. I wonder what a good soaking does to the tone of a guitar?

I'm thinking late '71 as it has electronics (but that's just a WAG, w/o looking up the serial number). Wonder if it's rehab-able......

Paul,

That is the odd thing.

The serial pre-dates when the series started...I think..

6013

"1000 - = 1967 (Nov)-1968 (July) Four digits in black ink, no letter prefix "

"10000 - = 1970 (Feb)-1972 (May) Five digits, no letter prefix "

Wonder if it's rehab-able......

Not sure...looks to be some interest in it. I may not find out.

Jay, when I said late '71, I wasn't even looking at the serial number. I was basing that on when the C.A. was developed, and when the electronics were introduced. I don't think I'm off by more than 6 months one way or another, but I'm sure somebody here will delight in telling me I'm wrong. Probably my ex-wife or my daughter, under an assumed id.......

Jay 4 digits black ink = 1968 on Ovation Tribute site.
Right? Anyway being a Sandy survivor makes it sort of interesting.

I think that back in those years, they were more interested in building guitars than in keeping records for future posterity.....

Paul...

I have to agree with you. Regardless of what the serial says...the sum of the parts...especially the piezo, really makes it hard to argue that the serial is accurate.

jay you're really stirring it up with all these old Ovations you're bringing in.

I hope you're going to buy the Sandy special after all this.

You mean they didn't keep track of them on their computers? (Or smartphones or tablets or whatever).

And did you take out the trash yet, like I already asked twice?

Assume an assumed name has been assumed.
