Don't worry, it'll turn into the usual "plastic guitar" bashing pretty soon.

I've been watching that all day, just waiting.

I rarely see any bashing of O's on the AGF. Lot's of, "tried 'em not my bag" and more than usual, "they really do have a place, especially plugged in. I like them." After all, it is the prodigy of the original Taylor Guitar Forum and if they like the sound of Taylors ....

Oopps, did i say that? Sorry, my bad. Yeah, Taylor's they have their place. I've tried them, just not my bag i guess.

Oh Boy!

I posted to that thread. Said nice things and mentioned I have some O's for sale.

Here's the quote I just pulled off AGC:

"Hey Patch... for those of us not informed much about Ovations - I have an old Celebrity but I don't know much - can you explain a bit about what features separate the lower end guitars from the higher end ones? I was in a couple guitar shops yesterday and I found the whole line perplexing. I do like Ovation. But what makes a higher end Ovation ummm... higher end?"

I'll add my 2 cents and refer them here. But everyone feel free to pile on! :D

I kinda liked this line;

"I now am looking for things in a guitar that it (the Ovation) doesn't do, but then I played Taylors and Martins and Collingses and Larrivees and all sorts of other guitars that didn't do it either, so it's in good company there."

Patch, why are you selling your '05?

Hi Muzza,

I just answered your question on my other thread, but just in case, here it is again.

Honestly, I just can't get comfortable playing with the contour bowl, especially standing with a strap. I love the guitar's sound, looks, and playability. I guarantee it would not be for sale if it had ANY other bowl on it.

Patch, you did a great job of up holding the Ovation reputation on that site, and a thorough explanation of the differences in design. Regardless of what anyone here says, I'm sure we're all in the same boat. Each guitar has its own sound, it's just a subjective matter. Much like strings.... (or ice cream)

Those folks all seem pretty Open Minded (unlike some I know)...

"Why do you want a Plastic Guitar? You need a real wood guitar."
Have you ever played an Ovation?
"No, but I know I wouldn't like them!"
Stop over my house and I'll let you try one or two...
"Naw, that's okay, I like my Seagull..."

Yeah, that kind of discussion plays out a lot.

But be fair Arthur, we ALL have opinions about things we have never tried. For example, I don't like Cadillacs. I would never own one in a million years. But you know what? I've never even tried one. Am I closed minded? I don't think so. I just have a certain strong opinion, that's all. Closed minded (in my opinion) is if I think that others who may LIKE Cadillacs are somehow "wrong" or "stupid" or something like that. Does this make sense?

If it should offend Seagull guitars, then i have to protest. My friend owns Seagull (i don't know exact model) which sound-wise kicks ass.
It sounds far better than Martin Vs-28 or Taylor 914-CE.
This is the only Seagull guitar i've heard, but it's probably the best sounding acoustic i've ever heard.

I don't think I've ever heard a Seagull that didn't sound great.

I've got a buddy who started playing guitar just a few years ago and bought a Seagull. Then he upgraded to a Breedlove. I would have stayed with the Seagull.

At GC, the dude was trying to sell me a Breedlove 12. I liked it.

My buddy's Seagull is a nice old hippie's beater, and it sounds good.
That would not preclude me from trying something else.
I always have treated Music Stores as research library's.
I'll try anything once, and not let my preconceptions taint my assessment!
(How noble of me!) :p
