I think a few here have purchased the Pearloid tuner buttons model # 3057 Schaller for their 2004 Elite's and especially the model 6778. Do they fit without mod's? I want to change out the chrome ones and need to know once more. Thanks.

I've got them on my 6778LX. I just unscrewed the chrome ones and used the same screws to put the new Schaller ones on. Just be sure to tighten them down snugly - they work great - no mods. Got them from Stew Mac.

It is the way to go!

I remember one member having a problem with theirs but I didn't hear the fix or if they were the right ones. Maybe they went with the Ebony ones.

I put a set of the pearloid Shallers from StewMac on my 2000 Collectors which have the Ping tuners. They worked fine. No issues whatsoever, and really added to the look. I used the original screws, not the ones that came with the buttons.

The problem someone was having was with the Shaller ebony buttons on the Pings; I recreated the experiment and they were a bit of trouble on the Pings but I finally got them to seat correctly without slippage. Wouldn't recommend them for any period of time as they seemed to loosen up and slip again. They do, however, work perfect on Shallers ... go figure.

Hey LX, your 04 model most likely has Ping tuners and Schallers or Gotoh buttons will not fit correctly. But I think you can force them on. You can purchase replacement Pings with ebony buttons as I did and they will fit right on...The black and gold looks very elite, but I think they are actually ebonoid..ha

I had been thinking for the last few weeks about going ebony on my new 12 string. 'Spose that would mean using the 3058 size...anybody try those? Would the same problem(s) apply?

And what's a "Ping"

Thanks, and be well!
Johnny

Johnny: "Ping" is a brand of tuners Ovation uses. You may have those on your guitars.

As an FYI... some of the older Ping tuners and the newer manufactured tuners according to LMI and Stew-Mac have of late a slightly larger slightly different shape on the button shaft than do Schallers. I guess the older ones were somewhat different? A friend of mine did manage to press some wooden ebony ones on a 04 OV, but they are now stuck and have a slight minute slip at first turn. But not a real problem for now. So it may depend on the manufacture year of Pings your guitar has?
