Location: Midland, MI | A couple of nights ago, I restrung my Strat-o-copy with some heavier strings (the 9s were way to light after playing the O for so long...like trying to fret limp spaghetti), set the intonation, etc. Well, I didn't get a chance to play it until lunch today. YIKES!
I haven't actually played the thing in many months, as I've been preferential to the O. Now I find the neck is too danged thin and the fretboard isn't wide enough! I may have to donate it to my oldest son and get some other electric with a nice wide/thick neck. Ugh. Has anyone else experienced this? Guess it's a good thing that tenor banjo was sold already!
Hrmm, I wonder if my wife will buy this as justification for another geetar? ;) |

HAHA. I was just looking at a Hamer on eBay, but it's a Strat-o-copy, too. =( Unless Hamer's have thicker necks than the Ibanez/Yammy Strat-o-copy's! :) I'm thinking I need another O...maybe a Preacher Deluxe, Viper III, something like that. I was going to bid on the Preacher Deluxe that just sold on eBay (it was in SE Michigan, so I figured it was destiny) , but when it hit $500, I chickened out.
I'm going to have to go look up the dimensions on my O neck and see what I can find that might be similar. The funny thing (to me) is that (one of) the big drawing card(s) of the O is that it has an 'electric'-like neck. How mine got to be more comfortable than my other guitar is a mystery.
Anyone have opinions on the hamer semi-hollow jazzboxes?

Location: Minden, Nebraska | The Hamer Strat style copies tend to have Strat style neck profiles. The Studio models have chunkier necks that I have found to be among the finest necks to be found on an electric. |

Very interesting information, and I appreciate it, Paul. I'd really like to get away from the Strat silhouette. Even a tele would be fine (as long as it has an HB in the neck). My real problem is that I want something else, but I'm unable to narrow down exactly what that is.
Actually, now that I've typed that, I should restate: My real problem is that I'm married and have three sons. If I continue to buy music gear, my wife is surely going to either kill me or leave me.
Actually, now that I've typed *that*, I'm not sure what my problem is. HAHAHHA. Just kidding. Age old problem...have GAS, don't want to deal with SONAR. :)

Location: Omaha | This topic's a little old, but I've been on vacation for the last week or so, thus am late in replying.
First of all, what does SONAR mean? Is that like BTW and FWIW, etc., IOW (another one!), internet-speak?
Second, before you abandon the Strat, a solution (much cheaper, and maybe more agreeable to your wife, since you wouldn't be bringing a new guitar in the house) would be to get a neck with a different profile from Warmoth or WD Parts, etc.
I've built a number of Warmoth's (over six...) and the necks are top notch. They have between 6-10 different neck profiles available to choose from, so there ought to be something you'd be comfortable with. Most of mine are 1 3/4" at the nut, since that matches my favorite acoustics, and they all play great.

Welcome to the board! As you probably know, no one of your flock died or had major surgery.... Or at least if they did, I didn't get the call to come in off the bench.
(For the rest of you, I have known Mike for 25 years and loved him in spite of his lefthanded birth defect. We live 15 miles away from each other now. He told me that he picked up an O just before going on vacation. I am so pleased he posted here before letting me know personally he had returned....) :rolleyes: |

Anywho, leftovertion, thanks for the information. I've actually looked at the Warmoth site with an eye towards building a Cruster-stein guitar, but, alas, I lack certain woodworking and electronic skills. =(
Ok, now that SWMBO isn't reading over my shoulder...
The Warmoth idea is a good one. But, other than sentimentality, I'm not *that* attached to the ol' Stratocopy. But, more (or perhaps, *MOST*) importantly...a new neck ain't gonna scratch this itch, if you know what I mean. :)
