I'm a little confused ... I definitely heard it said during the OFC this year that 2005 was the 30th Anniversary of the Adamas. But production started in 1977, and the slotheads (prototypes) were released in the fall of 1976. What am I missing?

Actually, it works like this - if 1976 was year 1 of production, 1977 was year 2, 1978 was year 3, etc.... then 2005 is the 30th year of production.

Al was invited to the mother ship to see the new models for 2005 - I believe it was today.

Doesn't mean we will know before January but at least our resident dealer won't have to see the 30th Anniv on eBay first as happened last year - January 3rd, we all saw the 30th Anniv Custom Legend listed on eBay.

I know that I've brought this up...

The 30th and the OFC should be one and the same.
Add the OFC markings and it's a winner.

January (NAMM) show with orders placed... Delivery by March '05...

That's my guess, wish...

Couple of thoughts about the OFC recognition...

First of all, I previously commited to buy an OFC guitar, hopefully a slothead Adamas I :}

However, not exactly sure of what we are celebrating.

Maybe the upcoming 3,000 members - although we don't know how many are checking messages on at least a monthly basis. Nothing wrong with that...seen where someone came back and was active after a period of time.

If we are celebrating the OFC, there should be something that is available to ALL OFC'ers that want to participate...something inexpensive that doesn't require an expensive guitar (trc, strap, ??). Couple of years ago, I would have been categorizing the OFC guitar project as exclusive, possibly even divisive. Strong words but not if you are trying to put food on the table, helping children with tuition, etc. Question how many OFC'ers will be able to afford a special issue...have heard of numbers of 12-18. Pretty exclusive out of over 2,800 members.

As to a special guitar, whether OFC labeled or not, I concur that we can save dollars by going in with a limited run. And, it should be special. However, Tom (Woz), as usual, makes a good point in that we haven't seen the 30th Anniv Adamas. Possibly, there could be an inlay, gold label, or something to distinguish the OFC yet have lower costs as it would be part of their production line. The 30th Anniv w/small yet specific OFC reference could still have specific serial numbering.

So, recommend that there be two offerings...a "special" guitar and item(s) that allow any of our members to support the OFC. Items could be an ongoing products through the OFC store.

I like Tony's thinking.

Maybe the strap we have kicked around could be the special OFC offering (and buy the OFC guitar and get the strap free!!)

What is the typical amount of deposit required for the special guitars,

Can't imagine it would be more than a hundred bucks.

Don't know but not cheap...I would expect nothing less from the factory than a great guitar which was described once as the "retro" look.

Will tell you that in 2004 I bought two 30th Anniv Custom Legends and two 1777 LX Legends NEW from Al...didn't even ask the price. I have never seen a price from store or internet (to include eBay)that even came close to Al's price, let alone service.

I know, another shameless plug...wouldn't say it if he hadn't earned it.

Tony,
I kind of made the assumption that the guitars would be handled by Al for all the OFC offerings.

Should there be others?

I assume the OFC model will be through Al as it should...as to the Anniv, it will be a general product issue and most likely will be found in a GC or on eBay.
