Hello all!

After beginning to learn to play better on my new ovation I have determined that my chubby fingers might do better on a guitar with a wider neck (or nut I believe). Any suggestions of models I should look at?

Thanks,

Dave

All lovely guitars, guess I will be saving my pennies for a while. Some of them are only 1/16 wider than my 6868, others are 3/16 wider. Will have to try out some wider nut guitars in my local store to see if I can tell the difference before buying.

Thanks for all the responses!

Dave

Dave, You would be surprised how much difference a 1/16" can make.

I have a Hamer solid-body electric....
It has a standard 1-11/16" nut, just like my Ovations...
But it FEELS wider!

I finally got a Caliper an measured it...
The nut is 1-11/16" but the string spacing from E to e is wider.

So those little measurements don't sound like much, but you will feel the difference.

Country Artists are nylon string aren't they?

Agreed. TAKAR's '08C's nut width is only 1/16" wider that my '05C but it feels like 1/4"!

If an OLD Folklore 1114 comes to the surface, grab it! Unless you need a cutaway.

If you capo on the second fret, you are pretty close to the spacing on a 1-3/4 neck (nut). Should give you anidea. I have big hands and fingerpick. Have owned an old Folklore for ayear. That is a very wide neck (1-7/8), but playing it has improved my left hand dexterity and fingerplacement on the standard necks (I have several)so much that I no longer yearn for something wider (for me maybe 1-3/4 would be nice).
A nut with 1/16 more spacing would bring the strings 1/32" closer to the edge on each side. OMA is right, the difference is quite notisable, and I don't think it would present a problem. Worked great on my Trekker (narrow neck fitted with a standard O nut).
