Hi, Everyone,
Can anyone tell me about the pickup on a 1993 Collector's Series? Does it have a shim underneath the saddle to adjust the pickup/string height? Also, which Collector's Series guitar has a TRUSS ROD COVER with, "Collector's" written on it, as opposed to the graphic on the headstock, seen with some models? Thanks.

I'm pretty sure even the thinline pickups had shims when they cam from the factory.

As for TRCs, aside from the '97 parlor, the first collectors with one was the 2004 and it said 'commemorative' I think. All the previous ones (except the 97) had the Kaman bar with the adjustment on the other end. So that narrows it down some for you.

I had to cheat and look at Jerome's wonderful site, Ovation Tribute. He shows that the 2005 Collector is the only one with the word "Collector's" on the truss rod cover, but the 2001 and 2002 have it on the headstock. His picture of the 2002 shows a small truss rod cover, but I thought, like Damon said, that they all had the Kaman bar until the 2004, which wasn't really a Collector series, but a Commemorative of the Custom Legend. The 2005 is when they introduced the LX neck with a truss rod and the contour bowl. Michael, if you're looking at a 2005, they were great sounding guitars in my opinion. I wasn't a fan of the contour bowl back then or I'd probably have one.

The most unique thing about the 93 Collectors was in the 5 piece neck, the strips surrounding the middle have an orange tint. I don't know how they achieved that.

Just a random observation...
Both the 2006 and 2007 Collectors' Editions say "Collectors'" on the 12th Fret.
But they do not state the year on the guitar, not on the TRC... only on the sticker.

There were a few unique things. Another was the angle of that saddle. Beal said something once about it being changed to increase the break angle or something like that.

Hi, Everyone,
Thanks for the information. As usual, the OFC members here are a big help with everything. I am actually now negotiating for 1993 Collector's, which just showed up, posted in the local Ottawa Valley social media, about 10 days ago.( I think this is a much better guitar than the 1983 Collector's, IMYOHO.) I know I can't post a price on it here, but then again, I haven't tried this guitar out yet, either. The massive snowstorm here last Tuesday made a huge mess of transportation, and my patio is a skating rink, so I'm not going anywhere for a while. I know the person who owns this guitar, and he has kindly offered to bring the guitar from his place, about 30 minutes away, to my apartment, for me to try it out. No date is set for this meeting yet, because travel is still very bad. And yes, the guitar showed up the exact same week I found out I need new medical equipment?! Did I mention I hate getting old? Any thoughts on my dilemma? What would OFC members do?

I know I can't post a price on it here...

Why Not?
People post prices on stuff all the time.
At least I do.

Micheal,as far as posting prices I believe the restriction is when posting a guitar for sale you must post a price,if you'd like our opinion on the asking price you can give it,I think most people don't because if it seems like good deal someone else may read about it and buy it out from under you.
There is a 93 collectors on feebay right now for 679.80 plus shipping which is a good price IMHO,prices on collectors are all over the board I've seen below 500 to as high as 1500.
I love the barnburst finish of the 83 collectors but it's a super shallow bowl, the 93 collectors is mid-depth which I seem to recall you liking, think about what features you want in a guitar, centerhole vs multi-soundhole,bowl depth, top, electronics, etc. and use that to guide you, ultimately how the guitar plays and sounds to you is the best way to make your choice.Good luck with your search,Kevin

I don't regret the prices I've paid for any of my guitars, even though some of them were perhaps a bit above "best" pricing if I'd held out longer. Some I got really cheap (like when gas prices went sky high and the economy tanked about 8 yrs ago). I don't think I'll ever make money overall if I sold my guitars. But I get a lot of pleasure out of each one, even the ones I've sold I really enjoyed them when I had them.

My theory is if the price is in the ballpark and you like the guitar, buy it. Next week you'll see one priced less, and sometime in the near future you'll see one go for more than you paid. That's just the way it goes! The difference doesn't really amount to that much, especially amortized over however many years you own and play it.

Guitars are a good investment in quality of life. If your budget allows it, go for it.

Hi, Everyone,
This is just an update on the status of the 1993 Collectors. The guitar is still available. I've just been made offers on my 1990 Ovation Elite, and one of my 3 amplifiers, which should help with a " budget" for this guitar. However, I still have to wait to find out if I have to pay for the rest of my medical equipment. As of today, 2 of the 3 pieces are already paid for by our Canadian version of "Medicare". Yes, we have, "socialized medicine", here in Canada, but the government certainly does NOT pay for everything, simply because I have a physical disability. I bought all of my musical equipment with my own money, like other people, so I'll have to be more patient to get this particular guitar. I do risk losing it if I wait it out for too much longer, but the seller told me, "It's not going anywhere, and just collecting dust." I wonder if that's how "The Collector's Series" got its name? "Good things come to those who wait." "We shall see what we shall se, won't we?" Yes, I watched, 'Under Siege' again today! We are in the midst of yet another snowstorm/ ice storm, so I'm NOT going anywhere, either. Only in Canada, folks.

Hi, Everyone,
As of today, I have good news, and I have bad news. The bad news is that the ice and snow from the recent storm has NOT yet been cleared away from
my entrance, and so my caregiver almost fell on her keyster when she came in this morning?! So, I'm still not going anywhere soon. The good news is that the 1993 Collectors is still not going anywhere, either, and the selling price is coming down. It's a waiting game now, I guess.

Hi, Everyone,
My old laptop suddenly went to cyberspace/recyling heaven just after my last post here, and I finally got another used one from a family member. In the past 3 weeks, the price on the 1993 Collector's for sale here in Ottawa has come down yet again. However, the owner will NOT take a deposit on it, so the wating continues, as with with the scooter situation. "Lord, give me patience, but not just yet!"

Hi, Everyone,
I'm in a bit of a quandry. Just to update, I have good news, and I have bad news. Bad news, I'm NOT getting a new scooter, and GOOD NEWS, the price on the Ovation 1993 Collectors available here in Ottawa, has come down, yet again! YAY! I'm getting my 1990 Elite 1768-4 Deep Bowl Cutaway appraised by my guitar tech through The Blue Book of Gutars. I'm not posting any prices here, because I'm not sure what my guitar is worth until I hear from him. I was also looking a PDF link here to prices realized for the entire Collectors Series archive, but all of my information went into cyberspace/landfill with my previous laptop. Ooopsie! Am I looking in the wrong place?
