I don't know the answer to your question, but I do know that case repair can be quite expensive. Any music store that sells band instruments probably has a tech who can replace latches, etc., and keeps a supply of different latches and parts on hand. Be prepared to pay a good price for the part and even more for the labor. Repair of the vinyl has been discussed in more than one thread on the board, which would be turned up by a search.

LOL,
At first I thought you were talking about the case I sent with the Folklore (look inside-if you see fiberglass it is the bowl).

Because I did reform that case using a rubber mallet!

I didn't force it, mind you, I just applied force in a direct way!

That actually might be the least expensive repair for you to take the case in, and a skilled case repair man might get you back into alignment. Well, your case, anyway... :-D

A rubber mallet is most often the weapon of choice for working on case alignment. I do know that I am hardly an artist with one, and have found a number of cases to seem too far gone to get lined up. (But in truth for me, if a book were a tool I could repair anything!)

. . . the book just has t'be big enough & heavy enough (and somewhat "swingable") . . .

I DO have books that would have the impact equivalent of a small sledge. Precision is another matter, so Cliff's 'swingability' factor is relevant. It's clearly a design flaw in most books, though it is apparent that some books have a far greater impact than others.

On my way to perform a show in Nasville the airport security tried to open my case after i had checked in...of course i had it locked. They tried jamming it open thinking it was locked for some unknown reason other than a guitar being in the case. Well they did a job on it. It wont close right now and of course they claim no responsability for the damages.

Unfortunately TSA has the authority to open anything, anytime, and if it's locked they'll break it or cut it off.
That's why I bought some of these.

TSA can open them to inspect, but airport workers can't. And they show if they've been opened.

Didn't. I carried mine on! :D
Many cases have a loop for a small padlock, though.

This is what I use on my electric (and large luggage) when flying. Also, good for keeping out kids and people who want to look at your guitar at gigs.

For my papoose, it's one of these semi-hard shell deals with zippers and, when flying, I use the TSA luggage locks. At the worst, I've gate checked my guitars, I've never had to check them at the beginning, never had a problem ... knock wood

I've repaired old cases before. For the valence, you bend it the best you can with pliers. It won't seal exactly right, but it will be better than before. Just use some clear slicone caulk to fill up any gaps.

For a regular guitar shaped case, I suppose you could use the webbed strap, and you'd just have to run it thru where the handle is, and then tie a couple of knots in it to make it snug. Or in the alternative, swap out one of the clasps, for one that has a loop for a lock, like a trunk. But that seems like a lot of work. I'd only do that if the clasp fell off and I had to replace it.
