A buddy of mine on another forum sent me an mp3 of some chords he put together, and asked if i could write a song to them. He named the file ASong, which gave me an idea of writing a song about songs, and title'ing it... You guessed it... A Song.

This is the beginning of wht i have come up with thus far, and it's very rough, because i'm still getting the chord changes along with the vocals together, so there is alot of hesitations, and some mistakes, but i think it could be a good song with a good meaning.

I would like to hear others oppinions on it so far...

Thanks in advance, and i hope you all like it... :)

You have a great voice. The song is already better than much of the stuff on the radio.

Sorry Bob, I didn't catch the meaning - I'm of another language, you know...
...so I can only assess Accompaniment, Melody and Voice.
I think you can go on asking friends to give you chord-sequences: they'll find 'em pleasantly transformed and you'll become a song-author.
I'm not joking: well done!
And - Yes - Ovations sound great...

Wow!

Thanks everyone. I never thought i had a good voice, but some people seem to think it's good. I guess hearing my own voice is kindof strange.

I am trying to learn to sing better, and i love writing songs. Infact, the only songs i know are the ones i write (which is probably a down side), but i just never got into learning other songs.

But anyway, thank you all for your posative comments... :)

I just hang around people that look and sing better than I do! It's the whole association thing.

But we'll always have our T-Shirt...

BobC - just play and sing with people as much as you can. Be open to constructive criticism and just practice what you do.

Then there's always lessons, but that sounds way too disciplined.

Getting the audience drunk and/or being drunk always seems to work for me.

Just don't puke in the guitar. That smell NEVER comes out!

It's just my ear, perhaps. But I think SONG would sound better if you capoed up two frets.

I don't have anyone to play and sing with. It's just me in my room with my PA and guitar.

I have been checking out a couple open mic nights in my area for the past several months, and have met several of the performers, and the hosts as well. So far i am too chicken to get up there, because i don't think i'm good enough yet.

Another down side is, that i don't know any covers. I only know songs that i have written, and i'm afraid people wont like my music. I never played in front of people before, and i get real nervious, and think i'm gonna screw it up.

I put a couple of my songs on my phone, and let some of the open mic performers and hosts listen to them. They keep trying to get me up there, but i keep chickening out. They are almost to the point where they are going to drag me up there, and force me to make an ass out of myself.

Hmmm... Maybe i can play my recordings through the PA at the open mic, and just pretend to be playing and singing... :)

Ah yes, know that feeling well. Actually, the audience really wants to like your stuff. They want to be entertained and (at least at most of the folkie things I hang out at.) they will give you a better than even chance to just be good at what YOU do.

You don't have to sound like anyone. Some of the most entertaining moments are those times when someone is up there just doing something you'll never see anywhere else.

They want to hear you, why else would they threaten to drag you out? Just try to feel like it's not your soul and self on the line (it isn't) and even if it bombs...learn from it.

You will never get better until you've made the effort to make every single mistake that can be made...twice. Collect 'em like badges, trade 'em with your friends.

Give it a go, seriously. The first jam I was ever at was the OFC thing. I was real nervous, added that my parents were there( I don't like playing infront of them) but things went okay.

Bobc. You sing and play WAAAAAYYYYYY better than me, and I got up and played at a local 'open mike' type night - twice. The first time I used a borrowed guitar and I completely botched my thoroughly rehearsed fancy bits. Vocals weren't too bad (for my standards)

The second time, I revealed my 'new' 1768 and the guitar got more attention than me. This time, my guitar playing was better (coz I was playing an O, not a wood box) but my voice was someone elses. I'm not a good singer and that night I was particularly bad. (I came down with the 'flu 2 days later. I'm hoping that that's the reason for my vulgar vocals)

When I finished, it was as if nobody was even aware that I'd been putting my soul on the line for the previous 2 songs. (Actually, one lady clapped and congratulated me for getting up there and 'doing it!) I had intended to play 3, but the crowd were so underwhelmed, I put the guitar down, took the harp holder off and was half way off the stage before the 'compere' said, "Oh, is that it?"

That was about 8 months ago and I haven't been back since. I must say, though, that this wasn't a particularly welcoming pub. I'm sure that if you find the right venue, with a supportive and appreciative audience and fellow muso's, you'll be off and running.

Maybe the reason no-one appreciated me is that I am crap.

You aren't!
