I have just aquired an Elite 1868-C Natural Finish, it's an early 90's model, it's in a nice condition but hasn't seen a lick of polish for some years.I would like to know what would be considered to be the best Polish for this Natural Spruce Top.....?

Cheers, Baden....

I think at one time Ovation reccomended Pledge with lemon.

I think most any brand of guitar polish will work fine.

Oh by the way, welcome to the OFC. :)

Ditto on the Dunlop 65.

By the way, does your label read 1868-C? If so, it likely has a solid cedar top, not spruce. A somewhat rare bird, and very good soundboard.

These guys know a hell of a lot more than me on Ovations. But I own a -C finish which is a natural cedar top and somewhere in my paperwork there is a statement to the effect not to polish a natural cedar top. I did try the Dunlop 65 on it one time and it left a dull residual that I am still trying to buff out. And no I didn't leave on too long. I think the best thing is a few sprinkles of water and a soft cloth. But, like I said, these guys have way more experience than me.

P.S. the natural cedar finish is not supposed to shine.

TWA is probably right.

To be honest, I didn't even read the "-C" mention in the thread. I was assuming it was spruce . . .

I have a 1768-C and a FUD. Both sound phenomenal, neither shines.

1868-C, shallow bowl Cedar top? Nice combination.

Congratulations on a nice aquisition.

For my wooden box I bought the full set of Planet Waves Restore, Protect and Shine. Great results - I'd recommend it but someone is bound to start screaming about the carnuba wax in there.
Haven't used it on an O yet.

I'm Polish, too. Probably not as good as Dave, but I do a pretty good job. My ancesters didn't drop the ski from our name.
