Hello everyone, new to the OFC. Finally have the Adamas bug. I have sent out inquiries for several of the models that have been up for sale lately. Haven't pulled the plug yet.
How do the 05 collectors/reissues stack up to older originals? I want a single cutaway and I believe maple neck.
thanks
Tom

Welcome to the OFC!

05 collectors, while a very nice guitar, is not an adamas.

Reissue cutaway, the 1581 is an incredible guitar and Al (click the lost art/vintage instruments link on the green bar on the left side of your screen) probably has one in stock at a great price. It would be my choice!

I apologize, I ment the 30th anniversary models from '05. Not the Ovation 05 collectors...

The 1581 is a great sounding and playing guitar with the single cutaway. I own one and it is one of my favorites. You can see pics in my OFC gallery.

All I can tell you is that the reissue 1687 (6str) that I got through Al is a keeper. Will probably sell a couple of my older 1687's that I have down the road. The reissue is that good.

GO to the links page and click on the Lost art & Vintage Instruments page. Al has some Adamas guitars. He is the Guru for these instruments and has a direct factory link for the best picks!
Enjoy

But someone give me a personal comment that reissue is fine by itself but original is still gives better sound.

I have no idea since I'm waiting for both of them to come in.

I appreciate the input. I have been playing along time. I go throught he usual periods of innactivity and end up seeing a guitar I like and buy it and pursue a different style or sound. The last purchase was the O '05 collectors on a total impule purchase. It has really taken me to a new level. I love the contour bowl. I can hold the guitar close and high with no pressure on keeping it there as I have always had with my other Ovations and without that added balance/positioning I am totally focused on technique and experimentation. Yes I am getting a little larger in the waist lately..hehe. However the new LX neck is unbelievable. I change strings/guages and with a slight tweak have the action just where I want it. I wrote the Adamas factory and asked if they were coming out with a newer design. No I am not knocking anything I just wanted to know if the contour or LX neck features were going into an Adamas. I had no reply. I can state however that this is the last high end guitar I am going to buy and really want a keeper. I need to play an Adamas with the Maple impregnated neck. I have emailed Alexp a few times on his inventory. What does the 'top made for import market' mean?

thanks a bunch
Tom

V74......this has been discussed several times before. Some of us (myself, Tony C, etc.,) feel that the electronics on the reissues sound much better than the originals and acoustically they sound just as good or better.

You can probably search the archives for "reissues", "1581", ETC. A

If I were going to buy an older 2 knobber Adamas, I'd send it to the factory and have the new 2 knobber electronics installed. They are 30 year new technolgy.

Make sure you give us a report once you have received it and played it for a few days.

And that means Taylors are really overpriced.
