Because "multi-task" is my middle name, I am looking for a few suggestions on other places to see while we are out there for the tour.
Hartford will be our first stop, then we have to spend a day in Halifax, Mass for the required vist with the out-laws.
I don't think I want to get way up into Maine but would like to hear about some must-see places in New Hampshire, Vermont, etc.
We like riding horses & mountain scenery. We have enjoyed most every National Park we have visted.
I can search the internet but nothing is better than an opinion from the locals.
I hope this information will be valuable to other OFC members.

Mount Washington in New Hampshire is awesome!
I highly recommend Block Island (off the coast of Rhode Island) as well . . .

(The biggest attraction in Hartford is the Museum of Life Insurance . . . z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z-z . . . . )

I spent 5 years on Groton, CT and still remember a few places to go in that area.

Mystic Seaport in Mystic, CT. Great place to see old sailing ships and things of that nature.

Newport, RI. Homes of the rich and famous 100-150 years ago. Big summer homes, some with actors and actresses that will make you believe you are there 100 years ago.

Plymouth, Mass. See Plymouth Village and the Mayflower, full of role-players, really great.

This should give you a few options.

I'll be in Plymouth nexr week - the original one. I'll give your love to the Mayflower steps and memorial. I'm stuck with the outlaws so count yourself lucky to get away for a while.
Enjoy.

I second Cliff's suggestion of the Mt. Washington area in NH. We were there this past October for a week, and the views were incredible everywhere we drove. Beautiful roadside streams and mountain views-postcard shots abound for the aspiring photgrapher. The Flume Gorge in that area was a must see as well.

We also have recently stayed in Olgonquit, Maine, which is a quaint artsy town with great ocean views, restaurants, shops and lighthouses. It's only about 10 minutes into the state from the southern border. We went back on our way home from NH because we loved it so much the first time.

If you're gonna be in the area of Cape Cod, I'd suggest Martha's Vineyard, but at this time of year I'd suspect ferry service is somewhat limited - and the climate a bit unhospitable . . .

Take a trip up to Baahhston!
The aquarium is cool (tho' Baltimore's is better), and there's some really good restaurants in LittleItaly (tho' not as good as New York's). ;)

If the Wifey's into "shopping", North Conway, NH has a shitload of factory outlets (at least they did years ago when I skiied Mount Cranmore).

Salem's a cool little town with the whole "witch"-thing, and New Bedford has a historical district that harkens back to the old whaling days . . . .

I kinda' like Newport, myself.

If you get up to New Hampshire you could always go see where the old man in the mountains was.

In Springfield there'a the peach basket on a pole museeum. Supposed to be nice if you're into that sport.

TR,

Remember to blend with the Locals!

Learn to drink tonic instead of soda. Ask for "Jimmies" on your Ice Cream and order a Frappe with that cheeseburger and then throw the wrappers in the rubbish barrel.

Remember that the letter "R" (ahh) is a vowel and that John F. Kennedy was the greatest Pesident that ever lived.

I spent the first 12 years of my life in Brockton (Shoe City, home of Rocky Graziano and Sacco and Vanzetti)and then in Quincy (Kwin-zee) where the Adam's lived and where buried.

I ran around kids with names like Alby Sacramoni, David Gianunzio and Stephen Papadopolis. I went places like Newponsett, Wallaston and Hyanis.

Now I go places like Sequim, Snoqualmie, Samamish, Snohomish, Skykomish, Queets and Gorst.

Thanks for taking me back there! Even if there are 5 times as many people per square foot!

There used to be a nice air museum at the airport in Ct. Windsor Locks?????

It had a nice display of p47 and Corsairs and such. I thought I read in a brochure that on a Friday or a Sunday you could sit in them.

The Nautilas submarine in Mystic Ct. is kind of cool ..the first nuclear submarine. Nice museaum and tour of the sub.

There still is an air museum at Bradley Field. It has grown and expanded plus is the largest in the New England. How do I know this?? Well, because I have been a Tour Guide there for 5 years!!! (SMILE) I recommend it if you get the time.

The Airport (and the museum) are not too far from the hotel where we stayed for last year's Tour/Jam. I know this for a fact because it seemed that EVERY TIME that I was trying to make it back to the hotel (from wherever . . ), I ALWAYS ended up missing the turn and having to loop around through part of the airport . . .

slipkid,

Block island is a great suggestion, but book a room early, summer is their money making months. If you go there, You can take the ferry out of new london, ct. (thames river) Takes about two hours. (same river that benedict arnold sailed up and then burned new london to the ground, then carved a road to canada.) but watch out for the nuclear sunmarines that go in and out of the harbour on their way to the subbase.
Also if at block island , try the clamfritters from Payne's dock. to die for.
Ct. is all about history and blue blood. I like the summers there, seafood, beaches and , and, well that's it I guess. Mystic seaport is cool if you like maritime history. , I'll try to think of some more. just remember, in new england the puritans came over for the right to complain... and they haven't stopped yet. peace mike

Hanscom Air field is decent.
Close to the old north bridge...which is where it all began...they say.
Waldon Pond is there too....Lexington Mass and Concord Mass...where P Revere did his thing...great stuff.

Was stationed there for 5 years...retired from AF there....was a good deal (ceremony was on Old Ironsides...very neat).

Also, you may want to check out Wells' Beach in NH...good area cold water...very cold.

Cliff is accurate...many outlets for good stuff...

Can also go up to "Kenybunk"...to see those sites...Maine is a cool place....

If you drive a few hours north into Canada..Sherbrook...can visit with Paul Goden....the guitar builder....he is great and will show you around his factory there.

Also....if you like Boston....try the Alogonquin....great.....just great.....great cigars and brandy

Where is the OFC gathering scheduled for? I have missed out for several months...would love to attend.
